With his mind on Independent voters, a plan has emerged for the president to counter “the left’s next national priority” while also doing away with a longstanding “injustice” likened to slavery.
In line with calls for reparations, many Democrat-led areas have explored alternative ways to redistribute wealth, including instituting a universal basic income (UBI). Anticipating this will be the focus for the left when next they hold the halls of power, American Culture Project (ACP) CEO John Tillman argued the time was right for President Donald Trump to propose a “universal right to earn.”
Writing for Fox News, the leader of ACP, whose mission is to get Independent voters engaged with ideas promoting freedom and opportunity, suggested in an op-ed that Trump follow through on doing away with federal income taxes.
Arguing that income tax suppresses effort as much as UBI would, Tillman suggested the president “frame ending income taxes as giving every American the ‘universal right to earn,’ while directly contrasting it with a universal basic income.”
The op-ed called out Cook County, Illinois’ establishment of a guaranteed income program providing $500 checks to low-income residents every month, as the author contended, “The goal is to help the poor stay on their feet, but in reality, the poor will stay poor and get more numerous.”
“Not only should the president call out this injustice, but he should contrast it with his recent call to eliminate income taxes altogether,” wrote Tillman. “This may be Trump’s greatest opportunity for moral and economic leadership yet.”
At the beginning of the month during a cabinet meeting, the president addressed the success of his tariffs and expressed, “I believe that at some point in the not too distant future you won’t even have income tax to pay, because the money we’re taking in is so great, it’s so enormous that you’re not gonna have income tax to pay.”

Referring to UBI as “the left’s next national priority” while calling out tests through pilot programs in blue havens, the CEO decried the policy as “a frontal assault on the human soul.”
“It saps people’s willingness to develop and apply their inherent talents, making poverty a permanent way of life,” said Tillman.
“Only one word can sum up UBI: evil,” he wrote as he referred to studies that found fewer people working after programs were initiated and an overall loss of earnings for participants. “At its core, UBI encourages people to tolerate an unhappy existence instead of finding fulfillment through striving, succeeding, and contributing to society.”
By contrast, he asserted there was “no greater spur to work” than allowing Americans to keep all that they earn. “Americans aren’t used to hearing such bold vision or language from Republicans, but if any politician can make a strong case, it’s Donald Trump.”
After going on to suggest income tax remained a form of slavery, Tillman concluded in part, “Donald Trump could easily say: For America’s 250th birthday, we should end this injustice once and for all and finally realize our national promise.”
