White House cites report to declare, ‘Yes, Ilhan Omar married her brother’

Reports on a particular kind of fraud allegedly committed by a Minnesota congresswoman garnered White House attention and reaffirmed President Donald Trump’s call to “Throw her the hell out.”

The North Star State has faced considerable scrutiny of late over concerns that hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars had been swindled in recent years, possibly even to help fund the Somali terrorist group Al-Shabaab. Now, long-raised allegations that Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) had committed immigration fraud found the White House affirming “Yes, [Omar] Married Her Brother.”

That X post from White House Rapid Response account referenced a Friday report from the Washington Free Beacon’s Scott Johnson that detailed, “Trump may have garbled the specifics, but he got the upshot of the story right. Omar’s family brought [Ahmed Nur Said Elmi] over from London around 2002 to try to extract him from a gay lifestyle, and that is the context in which the congresswoman tied the knot with him.”

Johnson’s report highlighted that, although there had been an application for a marriage license, Omar had not legally married the father of her three children, Ahmed Hirsi, at the time. However, she had legally married Elmi before later divorcing him, and the license had been signed by “Christian pastor Wilecia Harris. That remains an unmentionable detail in the sequence of events constructed by Omar, in which every twist and turn is accounted for by her Islamic ‘faith tradition.’”

While speaking in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, the president had said in part of Omar, “We oughta get her the hell out. She married her brother in order to get in, right? She married her brother. Can you imagine if Donald Trump married his sister?”

“Beautiful. She’s a beautiful person. If I married my sister to get my citizenship, do you think I’d last for about two hours?” asked Trump. “Or would it be something less than that? She married her brother to get in. Therefore, she’s here illegally. She should get the hell out. Throw her out. She does nothing but complain.”

The story chronicled both reporting on Omar’s marital status and her initial entry into the United States in the 90s. Johnson wrote, “Omar entered the United States in 1995 as a fraudulent member of the Omar family, which was granted asylum in the United States and settled in Arlington, Va., along with her sister Sahra and her father Nur Said. The rest of Omar’s genetic family, the Elmi family–a sister, Leila, and Mohamed and Ahmed–was granted asylum in the United Kingdom.”

Florida’s Voice Eric Daugherty reacted to the X post by raising another detail from border czar Tom Homan as he wrote, “HOLY CRAP! The White House just posted proof Ilhan Omar married her brother … Tom Homan said the federal government is now investigating … She MUST be deported. She committed immigration fraud!”

Quoting the Free Beacon report, he added, “Their story proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Omar married her brother for some fraudulent purpose.”

Meanwhile, given the left’s penchant for lawfare, the fact that Omar didn’t even appear to be threatening legal retaliation smacked of guilt as journalist Jenna Gloeb argued, “If Rep. Ilhan Omar says the brother-marriage allegation is false, why hasn’t she pursued libel claims against high-profile figures & outlets that repeat it? Worth noting: ABC recently paid President Trump $15M to settle a defamation lawsuit.”

Columnist Dustin Grage said, “Louder for the people in the back!” among other reactions about what a legal fight would mean.
