The latest example of the Gray Lady arriving late to the party begged the question as to whether or not the newspaper had considered critical reporting of Democrats “when it actually matters.”
Media bias may often manifest as paid pundits parroting partisan talking points, but sometimes it simply exists, sitting on reporting until its impact has been quashed. Just as confirmation on the Hunter Biden laptop story had been shared years after it might have impacted the 2020 presidential election, The New York Times was now getting around to discussing the impact the Biden-Harris administration’s open border policies had — naturally, with a built-in angle against President Donald Trump.
Referring to illegal aliens as “unauthorized immigrants,” Christopher Flavelle insisted that then-President Joe Biden and his advisers had merely rejected proposals to handle the border crisis in his piece titled, “How Biden Lost Americans’ Faith in Immigration.”
“‘Chaos’ was the word the advisers had used in a memo during the campaign,” wrote Flavelle, who went on, “They offered a range of options to avert that crisis, by better deterring migrants. Mr. Biden seemed to grasp the risk. But he and his top aides failed to act on those recommendations. The warnings came true, and then some. After Mr. Biden became president, migrant encounters at the southern border quickly doubled, then kept rising. New arrivals overwhelmed border stations, then border towns, and eventually major cities like New York and Denver.”
Sharing the piece that appeared to scapegoat Biden on behalf of the rest of the open border Democrats as responsible for Trump’s return to the White House, Times chief White House Correspondent and MS NOW analyst Peter Baker summarized, “His advisers warned that there would be ‘chaos’ at the border unless he took a range of actions. But Biden and his top aides did not act on recommendations. A deep look at how Biden failed to head off the immigration crisis that beset his presidency.”
The post and the article it represented drew plenty of criticism, including from RealClearInvestigations senior writer Mark Hemingway, who wrote on X, “In the last week, we’ve gotten major stories from the NYT on how the government of Ukraine is shockingly corrupt and how Biden’s border policy was disastrous. Has the NYT considered reporting news critical of … Democrat policies when it actually matters?”

Similar to Hemingway’s highlights, the Times had also joined Minnesota Democrats in making Gov. Tim Walz, onetime running mate for then-Vice President Kamala Harris’ second failed presidential campaign, the buck at which Somali fraud responsibility should stop.
In addition to questioning whether or not the same story would have run under a hypothetical Harris-Walz administration, critics of the “Captain Obvious” reporting from the newspaper contended, “This kind of backfilling of too-late truth is almost worse than the years of gaslighting that preceded it.”
“Corporate journalism deserves everything coming for it.”

this kind of political malpractice is what happens when your perception of what communities care about is shaped by foundation funded nonprofits staffed by Ivy League lawyers high on the supply of their own shoddy push polling. insanity https://t.co/jiUSd7xOvc pic.twitter.com/BHNwmuBQBR

This is called pulling a “Tapper.”
Pretend you never saw something that was clearly happening, then claim heroic journalistic status for writing on it when it is politically convenient to do so.
