Trump admin at rare odds with Florida supporters

President Donald Trump’s plans for offshore drilling are putting him at odds with the Florida GOP.

Sunshine State Republicans are sounding off on the Trump administration’s proposal to open up drilling in the Gulf, with Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) leading the charge in an X post. She voiced her displeasure over the plan that she believes would impede tourism and the state’s natural beauty.

Look:

The new maps released today by [Interior Secretary Doug Burgum] outlining potential new offshore oil drilling sites in the Gulf of America are HIGHLY concerning—and we will be engaging directly with the department on this issue,” she wrote. “Preserving our state’s natural beauty is deeply important to the millions who call the Sunshine State home, our visitors, and those whose livelihoods depend on tourism. We must act quickly, and I’m urging my colleagues to support my American Shores Protection Act TODAY to ensure oil rigs stay off our beaches.”

Even Governor Ron DeSantis is hesitant to back the plan, noting that Trump had previously blocked drilling on the Florida coast in 2020.

“Our Administration supports the 2020 Presidential Memorandum and urges the Department of Interior to reconsider and to conform to the 2020 Trump Administration policy,” said DeSantis spokeswoman Molly Best in a statement to The Hill.

But X users who are exhausted by high oil costs have a different take on the matter:
