CAIR director hails Mamdani’s ‘coup against the entire political establishment’

More than just deciding the next mayor, New York City’s election is said to have marked a “coup” against the Democratic Party’s status quo while signaling more to Hamas sympathizers.

Far from a radical in sheep’s clothing, there was hardly a need to pull back the curtain following the victory for New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani (D). Still, if his past praise for the “Holy Land Five” and warm embrace of an unindicted co-conspirator of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, among other positions, haven’t demonstrated his allegiances, a leader from the Council on American-Islamic Relations assured audiences abroad that Hizzoner-elect will advance radical “resistance.”

Appearing on Lebanon’s Mayadeen TV after the election, Khalid Turaani, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Ohio chapter, outlined his reaction to the outcome, expressing, per a MEMRI TV translation, “I believe Mamdani represents an opposition to the entire American deep state. Through this historic victory, which is unprecedented in modern times, Mamdani has defeated the traditional Democratic Party.”

“So Mamdani’s [victory] constitutes a coup against the entire political establishment, which is represented by someone like [disgraced former New York Gov.] Andrew Cuomo,” Turaani said of the official that many have described as an Islamunist (Islamist communist). “It is also a coup against the Democratic Party, which tried, and succeeded in 2015, to push aside Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (I), who was a similar case to Zohran Mamdani.”

He also addressed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) specifically, describing the lawmaker as a “Zionist, first of all, and a Jewish New Yorker” while insisting the lack of endorsement from Schumer was proof of establishment hostility before going on to insist the party would work to see Mamdani fail.

“New York City is an extremist Zionist fortress of support for the Israeli occupation state. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Zohran Mamdani’s election constitutes a referendum over the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance,” contended Turaani.

CAIR was a large donor to the campaign with at least $120,000 in contributions to Mamdani’s primary political action committee through its Unity and Justice Fund, and, where the funding was concerned, activist Linda Sarsour was not shy in emphasizing the impact of “Muslim money” while speaking at a CAIR conference before the election.

Sarsour also told followers during a livestream before the election that she and her allies would be holding Mamdani accountable at City Hall, a statement received by many as proof the mayor-elect was little more than a “Trojan Horse” for “pro-jihadists.”

The activist has also been highlighted discussing efforts to convert Americans to Islam in the time since the October 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel, where she specifically stated, “some of us will be sacrificed” while talking about a coming darkness weeks before an alleged Islamic terrorist plot was stopped in Michigan.
