Trump pledges $2K tariff checks for most Americans as SCOTUS mulls legality of America First measures

President Donald Trump called out the “fools” who do not support tariffs and promised that Americans will soon each receive a $2,000 dividend from the revenue collected.

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump touted his economic agenda, noting that the nation’s “ENORMOUS DEBT” would be paid down as he wrote about the “record investment” in America’s manufacturing plants and factories.

The president’s plan to give tariff-generated checks to Americans comes as the U.S. Supreme Court considers whether he has the authority to impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The high court began hearing oral arguments last week in determining if the president has in any way violated the U.S. Constitution’s separation of powers.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER, ” Trump wrote.

“We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion. Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place,” Trump continued.

“A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” the president vowed.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent clarified the idea of the rebates and where the $2,000 could be coming from.

Earlier this year, Sen. Josh Hawley (MO) introduced legislation proposing $600 tariff rebates that would benefit nearly all Americans, including their dependent children.

“My legislation would allow hardworking Americans to benefit from the wealth that Trump’s tariffs are returning to this country,” the Republican lawmaker said at the time.

“Since Trump announced his ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs in April, tariff revenues have climbed sharply from $23.9 billion in May to $28 billion in June and $29 billion in July,” Fox Business reported. “Total duty revenue reached $215.2 billion in fiscal year 2025, which ended Sept. 30, according to the Treasury Department’s ‘Customs and Certain Excise Taxes’ report.”

“So far in fiscal year 2026, which began on Oct. 1, the U.S. has collected $35.9 billion,” the outlet added.
