Reporter who trashed Trump and ‘Magatts,’ now gets to cover him for Politico. Sounds about right.

New concerns were raised about one corporate media outlet after a report featured past remarks from a reporter who cried, expecting “horrible things” from the president she now covers.

Even before the 24-hour news cycle kicked into overdrive with the prominence of social media and commentators peppered ample amounts of opinion with facts, the lines of objectivity had begun to blur. Now, while some had seemingly abandoned journalistic integrity entirely, the Washington Free Beacon came with receipts as it covered past posts from Politico reporter Cheyanne Daniels slamming President Donald Trump while referring to his supporters as “Magatts.”

“CHECKING IN ON POLITICO,” began a companion thread from the Free Beacon. “As a master’s student at Northwestern University’s esteemed journalism school in 2020, Cheyanne Daniels tweeted that she cried when President Donald Trump was elected four years earlier because she knew ‘horrible things were to come.’ She now covers the Trump presidency for Politico.”

That message captioned a screenshot of a post from November 7, 2020, that read, “4 years ago, I cried when I realized Donald Trump had been elected, knowing horrible things were to come. Now, I’m in my apartment in D.C., hearing people cheering in the streets, screaming that he has been defeated, and I’m crying once again. But for a very different reason.”

Detailing Daniels’ background, the Free Beacon indicated that posts it reported on were made while she was pursuing her undergrad and graduate degrees in journalism from 2016-2021. A review of her own LinkedIn profile detailed that before she joined Politico in May, Daniels had worked for The Hill for three years, where she described her role as a “Race and Politics Reporter.” She also lists her time with the Washington Association of Black Journalists, where she is said to be the current programming chair.

In September 2016, prior to his initial White House victory against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Daniels had said of the businessman, “Trump — oh you don’t deserve the truth people have thrown at you? Well, I don’t deserve a racist, homophobic, sexist, misogynistic president.”

Likewise, after the president’s loss in 2020 to then-Vice President Joe Biden, she had insisted, “Trump may have lost the election but over 70 million people voted for him — and some of those voters were people who felt, like their demagogue, that MY life as a Black woman doesn’t matter, that I shouldn’t exist, I threatened the purity of white power.”

She also called out the president’s supporters in response to a report that social media accounts were on track to be transferred from the Trump administration to the Biden administration, “This shouldn’t be news. Trump lost. Biden won. What’s that thing Magatts said in 2016?? Oh, that’s right. He’S yOuR pReSiDeNt GeT oVeR iT.’”

The Free Beacon noted that neither Daniels nor Politico had responded to requests for comment and detailed that the reporter had made her account private after they had reached out. Meanwhile, recent coverage had included reports on the government shutdown showdown and Trump’s involvement in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

Worth noting, earlier this year, as efforts to uncover waste, fraud and abuse had begun by the Department of Government Efficiency, it had been alleged that Politico was the recipient of millions of dollars of taxpayer money to cover subscriptions to the outlet, a point that led the outlet to deny being the “beneficiary of government programs.”
