Three officers dead, two critical while serving arrest warrant in rural Pennsylvania

Five police officers were shot in York County, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday afternoon while serving an arrest warrant.

The officers were reportedly ambushed while approaching a farmhouse in rural Pennsylvania. While attempting to serve a warrant, a shooter hiding in nearby cornfields opened fire, CNN reported.

Three officers were reportedly killed at the scene, while two remain in critical but stable condition.

Governor Josh Shapiro said he was briefed on the situation.

“My heart was pounding, my heart was pounding,” witness Dave Miller told CNN. “And then I looked at all the tall corn next to me and thought, well, if they didn’t get him, he’s on the run and he could come through the cornfield.”

Local law officials told CNN that the officers were attempting to serve a warrant to an ex-boyfriend of a woman who lived in the farmhouse. She had reported that she saw him stalking the house on Tuesday, prompting the arrest order, CNN reported.

Miller said he heard around 30 shots fired. The shooter reportedly shot himself.

“I never thought I’d see anything like that. I’ve never been to war; I’m not a veteran. It seemed like a war zone,” Miller said.
