The official account for the press office of Gov. Gavin Newsom continues to beclown itself with posts aimed at Republicans and President Donald Trump.
Amid previous embarrassing efforts to mimic Trump’s social media style, the account delivered an epic self-own that made it the target for brutal mockery on X as it tried to present Los Angeles as a safe city.
The only problem was that the posts compared the California city to other cities in red states, in an obvious attempt to own Republicans, which failed because of one glaring fact: the cities highlighted are actually run by Democrats.
“Tampa’s murder rate is 20% higher than Los Angeles’,” one post read.
This account’s self-owns of posting Democrat run cities that have higher murder rates than other cities run by Democrats are pretty amazing. https://t.co/nrH7Gthlcs

Missing from the post was the fact that Mayor Jane Castor, the 59th Mayor of the City of Tampa, is a Democrat. The former police chief and Tampa’s first openly LGBTQ+ mayor was elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023.
nice try..

The city on Florida’s west coast has not had a Republican elected as mayor since William Poe, who served as the 53rd mayor of Tampa from 1974 to 1979. Bob Martinez, who succeeded Poe, changed his party affiliation to Republican in 1983 while in office.
The Newsom Press Office account wasn’t done faceplanting, however.
“Per capita, Memphis has 243% more violent crime than Los Angeles,” another post read in a dig against the Tennessee city.
Memphis’ mayor is a Democrat
Memphis’ judges are Democrats
Memphis’ city council is Democrat
Memphis’ police chief is a Democrat
Memphis’ District Attorney is a Democrat
Memphis’ state legislators are Democrats https://t.co/kGhoROT2In— Ben Deeter (@benpdeeter) August 24, 2025
X users were on the ball.
Memphis sounds dangerous.
Who is the Mayor there? pic.twitter.com/tKt1ct65nk

Memphis Mayor is a black man and 8 of 13 council members are black (2 black men, 6 black women).
Rounded out with 1 white woman and 4 white men.Memphis Chief of Police is also a black woman.
Now, what were you saying about crime in Memphis? pic.twitter.com/2kJEr6gWgW

“The last time Memphis had a Republican mayor was before I was born,” columnist and political commentator Guy Benson wrote on X.
The Newsom Press Office account went on to compare California and Louisiana, and got another reality check from X users.
One is a Governor responsible for state issues. The other is a congressman with no local police authority. https://t.co/FoxMmI9pjg

“San Francisco has hit its lowest murder rate in 60 years — 35 murders last year vs Houston’s 322,” yet another post claimed.
Houston’s mayor is John Whitmire, a Democrat.
Hahahahhahahahaha
Houston has been blue for over 3 decades.

The last elected Republican mayor of Houston was Jim McConn, who served from 1978 to 1982. Democrats have run the Texas city for more than four decades.
Every mayor of Houston has been a Democrat since 1982.
