An agreement “prioritizing investment over tariffs” found President Donald Trump celebrating a “massive” nine-figure deal that secured the U.S. a vast majority of the profits.

While talk of alleged treason by a former president and efforts at transparency regarding Jeffrey Epstein dominated the news, the business of the chief executive rolled on. This included an America First economic announcement in what the president suggested could be the “largest Deal ever made” as Japan committed to a $550 billion investment in the U.S.

Taking to social media, Trump stated Tuesday, “We just completed a massive Deal with Japan, perhaps the largest Deal ever made. Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90% of the Profits.”

“This Deal will create Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs — There has never been anything like it. Perhaps most importantly, Japan will open their Country to Trade including Cars and Trucks, Rice and certain other Agricultural Products, and other things,” continued the announcement. “Japan will pay Reciprocal Tariffs to the United States of 15%.”

The latest on trade negotiations with Japan came a little more than two weeks after the president set an Aug. 1 deadline to impose a 25% tariff depending on the “relationship” with the nation and whether or not companies of the Asian nation “decide to build or manufacture product within the United States and, in fact, we will do everything possible to get approvals quickly, professionally, and routinely — in other words, in a matter of weeks.”

Sharing his own reaction to the announcement, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who visited the White House in February, posted to X, “With the idea of ‘prioritizing investment over tariffs,’ Japan and the U.S. have reached a deal that will benefit both sides. Automobile tariffs and reciprocal tariffs will be 15%. I sincerely thank @realDonaldTrump for his tremendous leadership. Grateful to Minister Akazawa and all those involved on both sides for their dedicated efforts. Together with the President, we will build a new Golden Era for Japan and the U.S.”

Enthusiasm for the deal spilled over into a reception with Republican members of Congress Tuesday evening, where the president said, “I always say it has to be great for everybody. It’s a great deal — a lot different from the deals in the past, I can tell you that. But, we’re doing really well as a country.”

“The tariffs are kicked in better than anybody, other than me and a few of the people in the room thought could happen,” said Trump as he singled out the work of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick while numerous metrics showed both positive trends in the economy as well as in sentiments regarding the outlook.

In addition to closing out his post with thanks, the president expressed, “This is a very exciting time for the United States of America, and especially for the fact that we will continue to always have a great relationship with the Country of Japan.”
