Former President Joe Biden spoke out about his shocking cancer diagnosis, thanking well-wishers for the “love and support” they had expressed.
The 82-year-old former Democratic leader posted a photo of himself along with former First Lady Jill Biden on Monday after reports that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places,” Biden posted. “Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

The photo showed Biden and his wife Jill along with their cat, Willow.
A statement from the former president’s personal office on Sunday had announced that Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer last week, “characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management,” the statement said. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
President Trump was among the many who reacted to the news with a message on social media.
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery,” he wrote.
“Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace,” former President Obama wrote on X.
Biden’s personal message on Monday prompted more sympathetic reactions on X.
