A big city in a red state might have made a huge mistake.
As the rest of the country is seemingly moving red, folks in the once Republican stronghold of Omaha, Nebraska, elected the city’s first Democrat mayor in over a decade.
It’s hard for some to imagine, with the crime, endless homelessness, failing schools, rampant and overt drug use, and astronomical tax burdens of blue cities like Chicago, San Francisco, Denver, and so on, that Omaha would swing blue at such a time, but it did.
John Ewing Jr. will be Omaha’s first black mayor. He unseated Republican Jean Stothert, who had held the seat since 2013, the Daily Mail reported.
“I called John Ewing and I congratulated him,” Stothert said. “John Ewing is inheriting tonight a great city, and we leave a strong foundation for the city that we love. We are grateful and we are hopeful.”
Omaha’s mayoral race focused on local infrastructure issues as well as national controversial issues like transgender rights, according to the DM.
Omaha makes up almost one quarter of the state’s population, with over 480,000 residents. But here’s the self-inflicted kicker… hardly any of them turned out to vote!
The “Republican” turncoats at the Lincoln Center celebrated the news as a dig at President Donald Trump.
The only person dumber than someone who doesn’t know that Omaha is a Democrat-leaning area would be someone who lets a member of @ProjectLincoln babysit their teenage son. https://t.co/kfKGNCGotl

Perhaps, a “fourth term” was part of the problem for the incumbent? That, and the fact that voter turnout appeared woefully low.

It’s ridiculous.

I give it 2 to 3 years before Omaha crashes and burns. If not sooner. Democrats ruin everything.

We need to work to solve a serious issue:
A large amount of conservatives think Trump being the president means there’s no reason for them to vote at the local level. https://t.co/gxRWoYZh9U
