ABC reporter aghast by ‘in-your-face’ and ‘unforgiving’ razor wire along San Diego border wall

The effort to deter illegal migrant crossings in San Diego was the focus of a local ABC News affiliate report that seemed to lament the razor wire along the wall.

ABC 10 News reporter Perla Shaheen detailed the recent security upgrades and “in-your-face” methods to deter illegal border crossings during a report that got attention for what many saw as pearl-clutching over President Donald Trump’s effective policies.

“Spiraling wire enveloped in spikes that can easily cut into your skin now covers the top and bottom of San Diego’s border wall” from San Ysidro to the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, the reporter noted. “The daunting image of sharp unforgiving metal is meant to deter illegal crossings into the United States.”

An additional 750 Marines and Army personnel were sent to the San Diego border in January, helping with installing the concertina wire and aiding in surveillance.

“Let me be perfectly clear: the border is closed,” Jeffrey Stalnaker, the San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent, said at a news conference highlighted in the ABC 10 News report .”If you cross illegally at the San Diego sector, you will face consequences.”

He noted that about 30 migrants a day are currently being apprehended, compared to up to 1,400 daily this time last year.

Many X users felt the report did not see the razor wire deterrent as a good thing.
