Musk shares Bill Clinton’s inconvenient throwback interview about his ‘really good’ relationship with ‘smart’ Putin

An inconvenient interview resurfaced, obliterating the “Putin’s puppet” narrative as former President Bill Clinton addressed his own “blunt relationship” with the Russian leader.

Even before returning to office, President Donald Trump had been taking steps aimed at negotiating peace between Russia and Ukraine that had been avoided for three years under his predecessor. Now, while globalists and their supporters line up to rehash tired Russian collusion claims after the GOP leader checked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s arrogance, a clip of Clinton commenting on Russian President Vladimir Putin has gone viral.

During part of a 2013 interview with Piers Morgan during the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York, the president said, “Mr. Putin…he’s very smart,” prompting the broadcaster to ask, “But, you know him better than most people. What was he like behind closed doors, away from, you know, the sort of public utterances?”

In the clip that had Elon Musk commenting, “Interesting,” Clinton went on, “Smart and remarkably- we had a really good, blunt relationship.”

Morgan, who also shared the clip saying in part it’s “worth watching again in the context of why President Trump believes he can trust Putin when it comes to personal assurances, and why he may be reluctant to attack him in public,” went on to ask, “How blunt?”

“Brutally blunt,” responded Clinton, who said “No” when Morgan wondered about coming to blows. “I think the right strategy, most of the time- but it’s frustrating to people in your line of work- you should be brutally honest with people in private. And then, if you want ’em to help you, try to avoid embarrassing them in public.”

“Now, sometimes they do things which make it impossible for you to keep quiet. But, by and large, I found all the people I dealt with appreciated it if I told them the truth, how I honestly felt, and what our interests were and what our objectives were,” continued the president. “And they also appreciated it when I didn’t kick ’em around in public for as long as I couldn’t kick ’em around.”

“Did Putin ever renege on a personal agreement he made to you?” asked the journalist who, when told, “No, he did not,” followed up, “So, behind closed doors, he could be trusted?”

“He kept his word in all the deals we made,” assured Clinton.

The same was allegedly not true for the former president as Putin himself told Tucker Carlson during their 2024 interview, “At a meeting here in the Kremlin with the outgoing President Bill Clinton, right here in the next room, I said to him, I asked him, ‘Bill do you think if Russia asked to join NATO, do you think it would happen?'”

“Suddenly, he said, ‘You know, it’s interesting. I think so,'” continued Putin. “But in the evening, when we met for dinner, he said, ‘You know, I’ve talked to my team, no, it’s not possible now.’ You can ask him. I think he will watch our interview; he’ll confirm it.”

Meanwhile, as world leaders gathered with talks of peace that smacked of perpetuating the war, Trump remained a straight shooter as ever, calling them and Zelenskyy out.

“Europe has spent more money buying Russian Oil and Gas than they have spent on defending Ukraine — BY FAR!” the president posted on Truth Social after criticizing Zelenskyy for suggesting the end of the war was “very, very far away.”

“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer! It is what I was saying, this guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing and, Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelenskyy, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S.,” said Trump, who paused military aid to Ukraine. “Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?”
