As critics continue to blame President Donald Trump for record-high egg prices that rose under his predecessor, the administration floated some solutions and strategies to fight the avian flu.
On Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins suggested some ” short-term” fixes that could “immediately” help bring down the cost of eggs in the nation, which are up 53% since January 2024, according to Fox News.
Speaking with Fox News host Dana Perino, Rollins said there is “relief coming” for consumers and farmers alike as she explained a five-prong plan to address the “overregulation” of the poultry industry that she said led to the current crisis.

“At the end of the day, policy matters,” Rollins said.”The egg prices we’re seeing now was a long roll of overregulation, too many rules, too much government.”
“First, we’ll invest from USDA a significant amount of funds to biosecurity,” she explained as she rolled out the plan’s five proposals. “That means the spread of the virus only happens through wild fowl for the most part. What can we do at USDA to help farmers ensure that doesn’t happen?”
“Second, we go through some significant repopulation, ensuring that the farmers that had to depopulate, that they have what they need to immediately repopulate. Immediately start getting hens again,” she added before going on to the third prong of deregulating.
The fourth step, Rollins noted, is to import eggs.
“We’re looking at importing some eggs in the short term,” she told Perino.”We’re talking to several countries around the world that can get us eggs right away. This would not be a long-term fix, but to immediately begin to bring those prices down.”
The fifth strategy involves long-term planning, Rollins explained.
“We’re investing a lot of money into vaccine and therapeutic research to see if there is an answer to this right away<‘ she said.
“We see a significant plan with significant funds moving ahead, and the American taxpayers, American consumers, and American poultry farmers have relief coming right around the corner,” she said.
