Trudeau’s gloating swipe at Trump after Canada’s hockey win over U.S. spectacularly backfires

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spit into the wind when he chose to take a swipe at President Donald Trump following Canada’s win against Team USA.

Moments after Canada’s overtime win in the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship Game on Thursday, Trudeau took to social media to take a shot at Trump who has repeated his suggestion that America’s northern neighbor should become the 51st U.S. state and Trudeau its “governor.”

“You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game,” Trudeau wrote on X, setting himself up fro brutal mockery.

Before the game, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he would be calling Team USA “to spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada, which with FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY, will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State.”

Canadians booed “The Star-Spangled Banner” in Montreal last week before Team USA won the game. On Thursday, U.S. hockey fans returned the favor and booed Canada’s national anthem which was reportedly altered by the singer as a form of protest against Trump.

Some social media users congratulated Trudeau after Connor McDavid scored the winning goal, many others roasted the outgoing prime minister whose attempt to jab Trump epically backfired.
