Reince Priebus tells Dem panelists their party is on ‘wrong side of normal’

Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus told Democrat panelists Sunday on ABC News that their party was in “worse” shape than before, stating they were now on the “wrong side of normal.”

A unified message has become a struggle for the Democratic Party, with some members blaming policies and others pointing to their messaging as reasons for former Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to President Donald Trump. On ABC News’ “This Week,” a debate broke out over the challenges the party faces, with Democrat panelists arguing the group could make a comeback.

However, former Trump Justice Department spokesperson Sarah Isgur interrupted, asserting that Americans had rejected the Democrats’ “establishment” party. Priebus quickly followed up, pushing back and saying, “It’s worse than that.”

“I think it’s worse than that,” Priebus jumped in. “The Democrats have found themselves on the wrong side of normal. In spite of all the challenges that Donald Trump had, court cases, all the ups, the American people said, ‘I identify more with Donald Trump than I do with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.’”

“They’re on the wrong side of all these cultural issues. Until they get that straight, and I sort of agree more with what you’re saying, is that populism of the left has a chance. Progressivism on the left is dead,” Priebus added.

Throughout Harris’ campaign, the former vice president struggled to connect with voters’ top concerns, which focused on the economy, inflation, and immigration. Instead, Harris either pushed race-based policies, such as her appeal to black business owners or refused to distance herself from previously supported policies, like funding transgender surgeries for illegal migrants and cutting funding to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Post-election polls showed Harris not only earned 7 million fewer votes than Biden in the 2020 race but also failed to match Trump’s gains, falling short in three of the seven key swing states and in 80% of counties nationwide, according to the New York Times.

Despite some Democratic lawmakers pushing for social issues like allowing transgender individuals access to surgeries for minors, an October Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll conducted by Noble Predictive Insights found that 59% of respondents supported a federal ban on sex-change procedures, including puberty blockers and gender reassignment surgeries for minors. Additionally, a recent Marquette Law School survey conducted from Jan. 27 to Feb. 5 found that 63% of the 1,018 adults polled supported the federal government’s recognition of only two sexes.
