With rumors running rampant about her marriage and her absence at recent events, Michelle Obama put on a united front by sharing a message that included former President Barack Obama.
Speculation has swirled around the former White House occupants as Michelle was conspicuously absent from President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. Days later, she failed to join her husband at President Donald Trump’s inauguration, prompting gossip about whether the Obama marriage was on the rocks.
On Wednesday, the former first lady posted a message on Instagram stories about plans to open a memorial garden in the Obama Presidential Center to honor Hadiya Pendleton who was killed in 2013. In her post, the former first lady mentioned “Barack and I” as she reflected on the young girl’s legacy.
“To this day, I carry Hadiya’s story with me everywhere I go,” she wrote. “She had an extraordinary light that will not be forgotten, and Barack and I look forward to honoring her memory through a dedicated space at the Obama Presidential Center.”

Michelle Obama referred to the former president as “my husband” in a message on the Presidential Center website.
“Pendleton was a vibrant 15-year-old whose life was tragically taken by gun violence in a Chicago Park. Just eight days before her death, she had performed with her majorette squad at President Obama’s inauguration festivities in Washington, D.C.,” the Obama Foundation noted in a post on Instagram.
Speculation about the former first couple has been floating in the weeks since the presidential election though there have been no official reports about their marriage.
“I do not know whether this is true at all. But if it is true, it truly would be a political earthquake in Democrat circles, nevermind America. I don’t remember a presidential divorce in modern history,” journalist Megyn Kelly said on her podcast recently.
