Dem senator uncorks wild conspiracy theory about Trump and TikTok

A Democratic senator’s viral suggestion about the president-elect’s stance on TikTok made for a social media roasting over why he was really “deeply upset.”

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the divest-or-ban legislation against the social media app owned by the Chinese Communist Party-linked ByteDance, voices from both sides of the aisle spoke out for their own reasons.

While the outgoing and incoming presidents opposed it, despite President Joe Biden signing the law, President-elect Donald Trump’s idea about a path forward had Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy (D) fearmongering over the “terrifying” shift away from social media censorship.

“TikTok tucking itself in with Trump. Twitter under control of the White House. Facebook making major changes to placate MAGA, doing PR campaign to align [with] Trump,” wrote Murphy on X Sunday as TikTok went dark in the United States. “Does everyone not see what’s happening here and how terrifying this is.”

Later on, the senator, who joined 78 other lawmakers in advancing the foreign aid bill that included the TikTok ban, bristled at Trump’s announced intention to keep TikTok operating in the United States, working out a better deal and giving America 50% ownership of the app.

“I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security. The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order,” wrote the president-elect.

“Americans deserve to see our exciting Inauguration on Monday, as well as other events and conversations. I would like the United States to have 50% ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to [stay] up. Without U.S. approval, there is no Tik Tok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars — maybe trillions,” he added. “Therefore, my initial thought is a joint venture between the current owners and/or new owners whereby the U.S. gets a 50% ownership in a joint venture set up between the U.S. and whichever purchase we so choose.”

In response, Murphy argued, “For real oligarchy (the richest handful of citizens running the country for their personal enrichment) to survive, the billionaire ruling class needs state controlled media. Here’s the first no apologies play — Trump wants to use government $$ to give him control of TikTok.”

Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told podcast host Joe Rogan how the Biden administration had allegedly yelled at his employees demanding they censor true content on Facebook and Instagram, “Then like all these different agencies and branches of government basically just like started investigating and coming after our company. It was brutal.”

In light of those revelations and the damning collusion alleged in the “Twitter Files” that asserted links between Big Tech, Big Pharma, and the federal government, reactions to Murphy on X couldn’t help but encourage the senator to look at what took place over the last four years, including his own actions against Fox News.

Murphy’s theory about TikTok accompanied another unhinged suggestion about the late decision to move the inauguration indoors that argued, “[Trump] canceled the outdoor inauguration because the Mall was going to be empty and totally embarrassing and all he cares about are the tech bros and the ruling class billionaires and so it’s better if they are the only ones in the room anyway,” for which he was also skewered.
