Los Angeles Times owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong declared that “competence matters” when electing state and local officials.
The entrepreneur took to social media amid the deadly and destructive California wildfires to “hit American voters with an ‘I told you so’ about their elected leaders’ response” to the catastrophe, as noted by Fox News.
Soon-Shiong has already come under fire from the left after he made the decision to withhold endorsing a candidate for the 2024 presidential election, a move that prompted an exodus of disgruntled staff. He further roiled the left when he updated the Times editorial board to be more impartial.

Soon-Shiong posted comments this week on social media about the raging wildfires and the utter incompetence of elected officials in efforts to combat the disaster and address the important issues facing Los Angeles-area residents.
Maybe the lesson we learned out of this catastrophe in California is to now vote not based on left or right or D versus R but perhaps based on competent or no experience in operating a job !! We have to elect based on competence…yes competence matters.

“We have to elect based on competence…yes competence matters,” he added.
Earlier this week, he called out the Democrat leaders and their evident lack of “competence.”
“Our hearts go out to those who have lost their homes and are seeking shelter. Fires in LA are sadly no surprise, yet the Mayor cut the LA Fire Department’s budget by $23M. And reports of empty fire hydrants raise serious questions. Competence matters…,” he wrote on X.
In a follow-up post, he drew attention to the false mass evacuation alarm that was issued for all of Los Angeles County before being retracted, further stressing and confusing weary residents.

Some X users called out Soon-Shiong for delving into politics rather than focusing on relief efforts or offering condolences. Others reminded him of the newspaper’s history of supporting and endorsing Democrats.
Many others, however, agreed with the L.A. Times owner and how the latest devastation in California has helped in “opening a lot of eyes.”
He’s so right! Competence does matter. My parents taught me that when you vote,vote for who you think is the most qualified. Listen to what they say and pay attention to what they do. Makes a lot of sense to me.
