Trump-hating Judge Juan Merchan sentenced Donald Trump to unconditional discharge despite being found guilty on charges of falsifying business records stemming from New York District Attorney Bragg’s years-long witchhunt, ahem, “investigation.”
“Unconditional discharge” means there will be no punishment imposed against President-elect Donald Trump, aside from carrying a “guilty” label. The sentence also secures Trump’s ability to appeal the conviction in the future.
“After careful analysis, this court determined only lawful sentence that permits entry of judgment of conviction is an unconditional discharge,” Merchan said Friday, according to Fox News. “At this time, I impose that sentence to cover all 34 counts.”
Mechan called the case “extraordinary” and claimed he took the “unusual step” of informing Trump of the sentence prior to the proceeding, Fox reported.
The judge then left Trump with a somewhat surprising farewell. “Sir, I wish you Godspeed as you assume your second term in office,” Merchant reportedly said.
Trump had unsuccessfully tried to block Friday’s sentencing with an appeal and had filed an emergency motion with the Supreme Court that was also rejected.
It didn’t take long for Trump to hit Truth Social to blast the entire “WITCH HUNT” claiming that the sentence of unconditional discharge proved that ‘THERE WAS NEVER A CASE.”

Notorious law professor and legal analyst Jonathon Turley ripped Judge Merchan for being contradictory and compromising New York’s legal system in a short, but damning thread on X:
…This is like Dr. Frankenstein telling his creature that he is just like any other man. Stitching together this case from a dead misdemeanor and declined federal charges is anything but ordinary….

…Merchan admitted that this was an extraordinary case but insisted that it was handled in an ordinary fashion like other cases in New York. Really? If so, that is a chilling thought that you do not require a unanimous decision on what actually occurred in this case.

Turley’s take sparked plenty of interesting commentary:
What chance has a ordinary person have against a system that’s rigged like this? This isn’t so much a conviction of a president it’s a conviction of the justice system… Who else have they done this too?

If that is the case he should punish President Trump. “No one is above the law”, right?
But the “Acting Judge” issued an unconditional discharge. Why? Cause there was no case!

New York is a failed state, with a failed criminal justice system. It looks like the only state that’s worse is California

On a practical note how much money did Alvin Bragg and Merchan waste to bring a patently obvious lawfare case resulting in a feeble outcome that did nothing but further debase the judicial system?

This was the point of pushing the sentencing process forward now, to make sure democrats had the fake “convicted felon” label to hang over Trump’s head with every opportunity they have.
It’s time we made sure a fair judicial system is in place and start prosecuting those who…

Literally all about politics, what an absolute joke.

They’ve been calling Trump a felon anyway so who cares.

Exactly. Remember the now-infamous Trump mugshot? How’d that work out?
