Amid wildfires destroying large swaths of southern California one top L.A. firefighter is making news for all the wrong reasons.
Los Angeles Fire Department Assistant Chief Kristine Larson ignited fierce criticism when a self-promoting clip touting her ability to serve her community despite being a woman went viral.
The beginning of the P.R. video shows Larson explaining how fire and medical victims want to be rescued by people “who look like” them, presumptively, if not ignorantly, claiming it puts the victim more at “ease.”
But, the madness continues.
Larson went on to defend her stance as a woman firefighter by answering concerns she’s presumably been pressured about: “Is she strong enough to do this?…. You couldn’t carry my husband out of a fire,” she used as examples.
Larson’s response to those concerns left the internet stunned.
“My response is,” Larson explained, “he got himself in the wrong place if I have to carry him out of a fire.”
WHAT.
Los Angeles Fire Department Assistant Chief Kristine Larson says when people’s houses are burning down, they want a firefighter to show up who looks like them.
Hot take: People just want someone to show up who will stop their house from burning down.pic.twitter.com/zTIRB1NMQi

So, according to Larson’s DEI “logic” taxpayers of a certain ethnicity should be served by firefighters of the same ethnicity.. but if you’re a man in a bad spot you’re on your own, it’s your fault.
Larson’s deranged hot take drew scores of criticism and backlash on X:
Anyone who has watched their home or a neighbor’s home burn knows what firefighters look like.
And we neither know nor care what their skin tone may be under all that gear: pic.twitter.com/1yNo13qLZ4— RetiredPublius (@ProffesorPubli1) January 9, 2025

That explains A LOT.
The viral clip caught the attention of conservative podcast host Mary Katherine Ham who took particular issue with Larson’s comment about the hypothetical husband. “This is actually appalling. This is a public servant?” Ham asked, and went on to say that Larson’s statement alone was “disqualifying.”
This sentence is disqualifying on its face for a first responder. To say it to a camera for a PR spot??

Plenty of X users agreed:
I just… I know so many first responders who put it on the line day in and day out and this is just the exact opposite of the job and the ethos.

“If you need to be rescued from a fire, that’s your problem not mine” sure is a suboptimal attitude for a firefighter…

Disgraceful. This is what comes of lowering standards for physically demanding jobs to satisfy leftist diversity mandates and pretending everything’s fine.

That statement, if not rebuked publicly by leadership, is one giant step toward the downfall of an otherwise noble profession. If that person worked at FEMA, he/she would walk past houses with Trump flags. According to his/her mindset, they got themselves into that mess so they…

Is there such a thing as a public servant anymore? Asking for a friend. They all seem to have an attitude against the people and become wealthy at the same time.

So very true.
