Chris Cillizza opened a can of worms by stating that it appears the first woman president will likely be a Republican and not a Democrat.
Cillizza said he’d been hearing a recurring theme from Democrat strategists since the 2024 election. “They do not think their party, the Democratic Party, should choose a female nominee come 2028 because they think the country… will not elect a woman as president.”
In fact, according to Cillizza’s deep dive into numbers and polls, the support for having a woman president dropped significantly from 94% in 2019 to 57% just before the 2024 election.
Now, a reasonable person might conclude that the 2016 trouncing of Hillary Clinton by Donald Trump along with the running of disaster-candidate Kamala Harris, who was also trounced by Trump, might have something to do with it.
Still, Cillizza said the sentiment from both sides of the political aisle is that if and when there is a female president, it will likely be Republican.
His comments raised some interesting reactions on X with one familiar name that kept popping up:
You are still stuck in this ‘check the boxes’ DEI insanity.
Normal people don’t care about crap like skin color or sex.
People looked for the least bad choice.
Harris was a very bad choice.
She was an establishment puppet with vaguely bad policies.— Sullidave (@0sullidave0) January 3, 2025
You can’t just put a woman forward and expect people to elect her. She has to be the right woman. Hillary and Kamala were NOT the right women.

Speaking of the “right woman”…
MAGA would vote for a Margaret Thatcher even if it was drag queen.

Ha.
I’m afraid the only way America will ever elect a female president in the next 100 years is if they’re a right-wing war hawk ala the UK’s Margaret Thatcher, and can scare all the men in the room (for the record, I’ve voted for two liberal-democrat female presidential candidates).

I’m afraid it going to be a right wing woman such as Thatcher that breaks the ceiling.

No need to be afraid of that.
Some other names were also mentioned and ran the gamut on both political sides:
Condi Rice

I voted @DrJillStein in 2016 & 2024
I’m definitely ready for a woman president who isn’t an establishment clone

Yes, Tulsi Gabbard. Not Hillary or Kamala. We are not identity obsessed in the GOP.

Despite all of this, I think nicky haley could have won hands down.
