President Joe Biden is being criticized for his glaring lack of leadership as he eyes his imminent departure from the White House.
Pod Save America host Tommy Vietor accused the 82-year-old lame-duck Democrat of “quiet quitting” during Tuesday’s episode of the podcast, as Biden fades into the background even as chaos rages around him.
“It’s just odd that, you know, he talked about Donald Trump being an existential threat to democracy for so long,” said Vietor, a former spokesperson for President Barack Obama and the United States National Security Council.

The podcast hosts, former Obama aides referred to as “Obama Bros,” were discussing a Politico article that noted that despite weeks left in Biden’s tenure, “it feels like he left the Oval Office weeks ago.”
“Biden has effectively disappeared from the radar in the wake of Democrats’ bruising electoral loss. Since Nov. 5, he’s largely stuck to prepared remarks, avoided unscripted public appearances or press questions, and opted to sit out the raging debate over Donald Trump’s victory, policy conversations in Congress, and the Democratic Party’s future,” Politico noted.
“There is no leadership coming from the White House,” a Democrat close to senior lawmakers told the outlet. “There is a total vacuum.”
“The White House and Biden, they say, has shown little interest in helping chart the party’s future beyond Jan. 20, the day of Trump’s inauguration,” Politico added. “And Vice President Kamala Harris, who cast herself on the campaign trail as the future of the party, has all but disappeared from the scene.”
The podcast hosts, unsurprisingly, criticized Trump for the flurry of activity as he gets ready to return to the White House. But they could not deny that the current occupant seems to have already checked out.
“There’s all these things you could do that really would be historic and important,” Vietor contended. “And when you’re unencumbered by politics, why not run through the tape?”
