InVest USA founder and CEO Michael Letts explains why true justice must be done in the face of a wrongful conviction of the re-elected President.
As you may recall, earlier this year former President Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York. But before sentencing took place, many questions arose, particularly about what would happen if Trump won re-election. Which, as you could tell by last week’s results, he has.
Well, a new wrinkle has arisen from this matter. A New York judge ruled this week against making an immediate decision on whether Presidential immunity should have stopped jurors from seeing particular pieces of evidence at Trump’s trial.
At this point, however, Justice Juan Merchan has opted to delay this matter, stating he will rule next week. This is before the actual sentencing, which will reportedly take place on November 26th. If mind you, it happens since the possibility of the verdict being tossed is on the table.
I say this because matters have changed since Trump was wrongfully convicted back in May. During that time, it was so easy to see the cracks in the case and just how much President Joe Biden had meddled in the affairs, all for the sake of finding Trump guilty.
And now, with rumors that certain evidence should have not been shown with Presidential immunity, Trump’s lawyers have more than enough time to look further into the matter and argue their case.
Honestly, I’m glad. Because justice must be done.
I’ve been arguing for months about how this trial has been properly imbalanced against Trump right from the start. Biden had been working very closely with the Department of Justice in an effort to stack up the evidence against him, just to make him “look bad” to the press and offer him a minute victory in his previous push for a Presidential re-election. (Keep in mind this was well before he opted to step down and let Vice President Kamala Harris take his place.)
And this situation regarding evidence is just one part of the problem. The fact that there couldn’t even be a legal balance as to how much Presidential immunity should have played a part is a red flag. And they went ahead and did it anyway, damaging Trump’s case even further against him.
Of course, media outlets will dismiss this argument, saying that Trump “had what was coming to him” after four years of “unfair” Presidential treatment against them. They will say that he deserves to be found guilty and argue, by all means, that the sentencing should take place, re-elected President or not.
But that’s the media’s role. We’re focusing on justice here.
The fact of the matter is Trump was hastily convicted of 34 acts of criminal action, without much chance to argue against them or, for that matter, the evidence that was unfairly presented in the matter. Perhaps that’s what Juan Merchan was finally able to see, and decided to act on as a result.
Again, this gives Trump’s legal team an absolute opportunity to argue their case. With a week before Merchan returns to rule on the matter, they can take a closer look at everything that’s been levied against their client, and show why the tossing out of said verdict is a logical solution. Despite what the media may say about the matter.
With Trump now headed back to the Oval Office, all eyes are on what happens next. If Merchan pushes for conviction, there could be a tremendous legal hubbub over the whole ordeal. One, by the way, that shouldn’t be done, if only because of everything that has happened to Trump already.
Especially when you consider that jurors shouldn’t have had to hear from former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks or his former Executive Assistant and Director of White House Operations Madeleine Westerhout. That’s just stacking a deck of rigged cards against a man who shouldn’t have been found guilty.
We’ll have to see what unfolds. But I firmly believe that justice will finally prevail and all Joe Biden can do about it is mumble to himself under his breath. Like he usually does, anyway.
Here’s to Trump returning to office!
