Stunning packaging ‘error’ leaves Mattel scrambling to recall kids’ toys

One children’s toy company learned how important it is to double-check your work before sending it out into the world.

Mattel has issued an apology and a recall after it was discovered that a web address was printed in error on the back of the boxes created for their line of “Wicked” toys promoting the movie. The website was supposed to read WickedMovie.com, the official site of the movie, but the printed address brings up an adult entertainment website that requires the user to verify that they are over 18 years of age.

“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page. We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information,” Mattel said in a statement on the misprint.

The company also appears to be pulling the products from major retailers including Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, Macy’s Amazon, Best Buy, and DSW, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
