After Iran launched nearly 200 missiles toward Israel this week, President Joe Biden is finally seeing the light.
Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, a significant occurrence in itself, the lame-duck president noted that the U.S. and ally nations are discussing imposing new sanctions against Iran.
This, of course, from the same man who, once he took office, repealed sanctions against the Islamic nation that had been placed on them by then-President Donald Trump and freed up money for Iran. Sanctions were discussed in a call on Tuesday with the leaders of Italy, France, the U.K., Germany, Canada, Japan, and the EU, according to Axios.

“We will be discussing with the Israelis what they are going to do. All seven of us agree that they have a right to respond but they should respond in proportion … we are giving them advice. I will talk to Bibi relatively soon,” Biden said Wednesday, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“There must be a return message and there are deliberations ongoing,” U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said Wednesday, “but as important as a response of some kind should be, there is also a recognition that the region is balancing on a knife’s edge and there are real concerns about even broader escalation.”

Soon after taking office in 2021, Biden rescinded former President Trump’s restoration of the U.N. sanctions on Iran, signaling a desire to return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, referred to as the nuclear deal that Trump had pulled the U.S. out of in 2018. During his tenure, Biden has also waived other sanctions on Iran.
After this week’s escalation of attacks by Iran on Israel, in retaliation for the assassination of a Hezbollah terrorist leader, Biden seems to be singing a different tune.

They are playing word games. They left the sanctions on but they keep issuing waivers. So the sanctions are getting worse but there is no impact – they get the optics on both sides.
