A rookie’s rude awakening to reality in the City by the Bay had two former NFL players chiding the young man’s defensive instinct, “This ain’t ‘Call of Duty.'”

Saturday in San Francisco, first-round draft pick wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an alleged robbery attempt as he reportedly refused to hand over his Rolex. Hours later, Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe and six-time Pro Bowler Chad Ochocinco Johnson found themselves agreeing “Nothin’ is worth your life” after the rookie’s effort in self-defense.
Discussing the incident on Saturday’s “Nightcap” podcast, after they both agreed the 17-year-old suspect should be charged as an adult, Johnson faced some pushback after asserting “There’s another lesson in this.”
“Nothin’ is worth your life,” he told Sharpe while pointing out, “You can buy another Rolex.”
“If someone tryin’ to take your car, you can buy another car,” added Johnson prompting Sharpe to argue, “If somebody come up to you and they ain’t got no gun, they ain’t got no knife, and they say ‘Ocho, give it up.’ You takin’ it off that freely?”
“Yes!” exclaimed the former wide receiver who made his case, “If somebody come up to you and say let me get whatever it is off of you, you already know they holdin’.”
“This ain’t ‘Call of Duty.’ I can’t revive myself. I don’t get a second chance at life,” he continued.
When the former tight end came around to Johnson’s point of view, he remarked, “But I get what you sayin’, Ocho. You’re right. You’re absolutely, 1,000% right. I’ve been in that situation and been — ay — but I didn’t turn around. I took his word for it. ‘Ay bro, my wallet in the car. I ain’t got nuttin’ on me.'”
“That’s what stopped me from carrying around cash like that, Ocho,” added Sharpe. “If you ever saw Shannon Sharpe with less than ten bands on him, call the cops. Someone just robbed him right around the corner.”
As had been reported, Pearsall was rushed to the hospital after the altercation had left him with a bullet wound to the chest while the 17-year-old suspect who’d received a bullet wound to the arm remained publicly unidentified.
Speaking with the San Francisco Chronicle, SFPD Sgt. Joelle Harrell said, “There was so much blood,” when she arrived on the scene having raced in the direction of the gunshots from where she’d heard them about a block away.
“I was using my hand for the front just to create a suction so the air wouldn’t enter the wound,” Harrell described as the Chronicle reported the Catholic officer began to pray for the victim who’d asked if he was going to die.
Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers issued a statement with an update on Pearsall’s situation that read, “San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was released from the hospital this afternoon as he continues to recover from a bullet wound to his chest. He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors, and staff at San Francisco General Hospital.”
