‘Unheard of’: Biggest gender gap in America among Gen Z voters

The current political climate and an impending election have drawn attention to an eyebrow-raising change in the gender gap of a key demographic.

“In some ways, this presidential election has become a referendum on gender roles — and the generation with the biggest difference in opinion between male and female voters is Generation Z,” a report in the New York Times noted.

The presidential campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris set its sights on influencers and Hollywood in the pursuit of younger voters, and the women in the age group certainly seem to be more liberal. But the latest polling data is showing a historic shift within the under-30 group.

“Men under 30 are much more likely to support Donald Trump than women their age. It’s a far bigger gender gap than in older generations,” the Times stated, citing data from New York Times/Siena polls.

“The values and attitudes underlying this growing gender gap might be particularly problematic for Harris and other female political leaders in the future,” The Hill noted, pointing to how a “growing gender gap among Gen Z voters makes the impact of young voters less certain and raises important questions about why young voters, thought to be more liberal than previous generations of voters, have become strongly polarized along gender lines.”

“In the short run, the increased enthusiasm of young voters in 2024 may not be as beneficial for Harris as many think. An early August SurveyUSA poll showed Donald Trump leading Harris among likely Gen Z voters, with the majority of males supporting Trump and the majority of females supporting Harris,” the report continued.

Times/Siena polls of six swing states in August revealed a 51-point gap in gender with young men favoring former President Donald Trump by 13 points while young women favored Harris by 38 points.

Social media provided a telling response to the numbers as well, reacting to a post by Outkick’s Clay Travis in which he noted, “BTW, Gen X is saving America right now.”
