A New York Times headline blaming Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s Democratic primary loss on “a flood of pro-Israel money” got a makeover after accusations of antisemitism.
Bowman has been vocal in his anti-Israel sentiments and has frequently spoken out against the nation and its supporters. The New York Democrat and “Squad” member suffered a stinging defeat Tuesday as Westchester County Executive George Latimer, a moderate Democrat with pro-Israel views, left him behind by double digits in the primary race.
The New York Times marked the voting results with a headline that read, “Bowman Falls in House Primary, Overtaken by Flood of Pro-Israel Money.”
Understandably, there was immediate backlash on social media.
“No. Bowman fell because he was an extremist, had bad policies and was widely disliked in his own district,” human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky wrote on X with a screenshot of the article.

Writer and co-founder of the group Boundless Israel, Aviva Klompas, also ripped into the paper.

As of Wednesday, however, it appeared the Times updated that headline to read, “Bowman Falls to Latimer in a Loss for Progressive Democrats.”

The New York Post noted that “The Times did not respond to The Post’s request for comment and no editor’s note explaining the change has been added to the article as of late Wednesday afternoon.”
The quiet alteration did not go unnoticed on X where the Gray Lady’s original headline made waves.
