‘Free beer for straight men!’ Idaho bar counters Pride Month with ‘Heterosexual Awesomeness Month’

A bar in Idaho has sent leftists into a meltdown after announcing a special celebration in June that coincides with Pride Month.

The Old State Saloon announced “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” beginning June 1 with free beers and discounts for straight men and couples. The promotion has been buried in both praise and criticism as proponents of LGBTQ Pride Month accused the establishment of everything from hate to bigotry.

The bar near Boise proclaimed on Facebook that every Monday in June will be “Hetero Male Monday,” and anyone dressed as a “heterosexual male” can enjoy a draft beer on the house. In addition, straight couples enjoy a 15% discount every Wednesday. The bar is reportedly looking for a “professional” judge to help determine if the heterosexual males meet the dress code. Qualifying ‘judges’ will be paid $15 an hour plus a free beer if anyone “think[s] you have what it takes to determine straight threads.”

Not surprisingly, the announced promotion riled up those on the left.

In an article claiming “Eagle bar’s ‘Hetero Month’ puts ‘trans’ in transparent bigotry,” the Idaho Statesman attacked the bar and its owner, Mark Fitzpatrick who called out the author for the “hit piece.”

Fitzpatrick emphasized that members of the LGBTQ community were welcome at the bar anytime, even though the promotion did not apply.

In a follow-up post, the bar noted: “1) We love our LGBTQ+ patrons! 2) We will not be changing our mind and give into the group of those who are responding with vitriol. 3) ALL are welcome to come celebrate heterosexuality with us in June!”

“We love our Black patrons too. We love our White patrons. We love our patrons who work for USPS. But we aren’t doing special nights for those people. Nor are we doing special nights for LGBTQ+,” the saloon responded to comments on Facebook.

“We are choosing to celebrate heterosexuals. We should be able to do that without so many people being so nasty to us, lying about us, canceling us, attacking our business, and/or trying to get us to make something about themselves,” the statement continued.

“If you want us to change who we are celebrating, get over it. It’s not happening. Hooray for heterosexuals!”

 

The owner also noted that proceeds from the event will go toward building “a 25,000 sq ft community event center nearby to host events, provide amazing and wholesome food, support conservative ideas, and help true conservatives get elected.”

“This is horribly disappointing. I can handle differing political views. I CANNOT handle bigotry and hate towards marginalized communities,” one Facebook user wrote.

Another commented, “Imagine being this insecure.”

But the Old State Saloon got plenty of support as well, with many social media users pointing out the hypocrisy on the left that cries foul when those with an agenda they do not support take a stand.
