Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently pushed the delusional take that the Biden administration has “done an extraordinary job” dealing with the invasion of the U.S. southern border.

While foreign nationals continue to pour into the country illegally under President Joe Biden’s watch, Mayorkas was blaming other factors and claiming the president has not extended an open invitation through lax security.

He even contended in the CBS News interview that some migrants illegally crossing the southern border “try to game” the American asylum system.

“That is false,” he told CBS News reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez when pressed on the administration’s encouragement of migrants coming to the border to gain entry into the U.S.

“If we take a look at migration, not just at our southern border, but in context, the level of migration throughout the hemisphere is unprecedented. And throughout the world, it’s the greatest level of displacement, of migration since World War II. I think there are about 73 million displaced people in the world,” Mayorkas said.

“The reasons why people leave their countries of origin are those with which we are quite familiar: extraordinary poverty, violence, extreme weather events, corruption, suppression by authoritarian regimes,” he claimed.

He sang the praises of the Biden regime, which is responsible for the rollback of Trump-era policies that had deterred the influx of illegal migrants.

“We have done an extraordinary job to deal with an unprecedented level of migration, Camilo. The reality is that some people do, indeed, try to game the system,” he said.

“And we deal with it accordingly. And importantly, the bipartisan legislation that failed today, for the second time, would have equipped us with more tools to deal with those individuals who seek to game the system,” Mayorkas added, referring to the recent bipartisan border security proposal.

Fox News reported that there “were 179,725 encounters at the southern border in April, compared to 211,992 in April 2023, and 189,357 in March.”

“There was a record 2.4 million migrant encounters in FY 23, and that record could be broken in FY 24, despite the recent decrease,” the outlet added.”While recent numbers are lower than the over 200,000 seen in December, they still remain higher than most months preceding the Biden administration. The administration has said it is dealing with hemispheric factors and a ‘broken’ system.”

Mayorkas’ failure to fully enforce immigration laws led to an attempt to impeach him earlier this year, making him the first Cabinet official to be impeached since the 1870s.
