The alleged influence-peddling from the Biden family appeared to reach a new low as released evidence revealed that a solemn memorial was treated as an opportunity for a multi-million dollar meeting.
Wednesday, as the House Ways and Means Committee presented a collection of whistleblower-provided evidence suggesting Hunter Biden had lied under oath to Congress, a message from the five-year anniversary of Sandy Hook stood out.
Tragedy, it seemed, like crises, were not to go to waste and the younger Biden proved that as he messaged Chinese energy firm executive Liu Yadong of CEFC on the WeChat app about a chance to meet with then-former Vice President Joe Biden.
“Can you meet this evening early,” asked Hunter on Dec. 12, 2017. “My father will be in New York also and he wants me to attend the Sandyhook memorial service with him and I would like him to meet you along with my uncle [James Biden] and then you and I can talk let me know if that works.”
“No problem. [Please] let me know where and when to meet. Thanks,” came the reply from Liu.

While it was not readily apparent from the messages if Liu and the former vice president had met as intended, the messages followed months of communications between Biden and CEFC’s Raymond Zhao asking for an update on a $10 million deal stemming back to July 2017.
“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled,” wrote Hunter Biden before a message was sent days later on Aug. 3, 2017, to CEFC’s Gongwen Dong indicating how he wanted a “[$10 million] per annum budget” and how “Bidens are best I know at doing exactly what the [CEFC] Chairman wants from this partnership.”
The IRS whistleblower documents also showed that a group conversation started on WhatsApp in November 2017 between Hunter Biden, his father, and his uncle, James Biden.
Upon the release of the documents, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) expressed, “Hunter Biden has shown once again he believes there are two systems of justice in this country — one for his family and one for everyone else. Not only did Hunter Biden refuse to comply with his initial subpoena until threatened with criminal contempt, but he then came before Congress and lied.”
“Lying during sworn testimony is a felony offense that the Department of Justice has prosecuted numerous individuals for in recent years,” said Smith as a video breaking down the lies pointed to the previously mentioned message to Zhao, “and the American people expect the same accountability for the son of the President of the United States. Hunter Biden’s lies under oath, and obstruction of a congressional investigation into his family’s potential corruption, calls into question other pieces of his testimony. The newly released evidence affirms, once again, the only witnesses who can be trusted to tell the truth in this investigation are the IRS whistleblowers.”
