Six US House Representatives of the Latino-Jewish Caucus on May 3 condemned Colombian President Gustavo Petro for breaking diplomatic relations with Israel. Rather than toothless condemnations, the House should look below the surface of the Joe Biden regime’s diplomatic support for Petro and why they are aligned.

After nearly three weeks of nationwide campus protests, funded in part by Biden’s donors, on May 7 he condemned the “ferocious surge of antisemitism.” Electoral needs drove Biden’s belated, deceptive statement. He has not applied federal law to the violent, coordinated protests.

The truth behind this would sink Biden and Democrats in this year’s election. The pro-Hamas protests fit right in with the Democrat Party’s creeping totalitarianism toward a one-party state. The demonstrators have a profoundly anti-American agenda and are at direct odds with those who love this country and its constitutional traditions.

Two totalitarian ideologies—communism and Islamic fundamentalism—have converged in these protests. The Biden regime backs these two ideological forces in Colombia and Venezuela toward the transformation of the United States.

According to Joseph Humire, executive director of the Center for a Secure Free Society, Iran has replaced Cuba as the dominant power in Venezuela. The latter has become the spearhead of criminal anti-American activity in Latin America, and Petro has proved to be a bosom buddy of Iran and Venezuela.

Humire identified Hezbollah as “one of the most dangerous destabilizers of Latin America.” It operates freely in Venezuela and washes illicit money throughout the world. Humire says that Islamists and communists leave aside the differences in their ideologies and focus on the mutually beneficial logistics of their criminal enterprise.

Colombian Senator María Fernanda Cabal says Colombia is fertile ground for the infernal alliance—including former communist guerilla Petro and the narco-terrorist FARC and ELN. The crime network of Hezbollah and communists has overcome perverted ideologies to dominate countries while the free world digs its own grave.

“We must find a way to rescue Judeo-Christian values that have kept us free,” Cabal laments. Cabal’s exhortation is urgent now for the United States. Totalitarians who worship government and those who claim to worship Allah have joined to attack the United States from inside and out. Without the Democrat Party’s totalitarian agenda, the violent protests would not have occurred. Islamists propagandize, but they do not control institutions, cities, states, and the federal government as Democrats do.

Representative Maria Salazar (R-FL), a signatory to the May 3 letter, saw Biden regime support for Petro firsthand in a June 7, 2023, hearing she chaired. Salazar wanted the testimony of Petro defector Armando Benedetti. She asked Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Brian Nichols why Benedetti’s US visa was canceled.

Nichols feigned ignorance. Salazar asked if Nichols could help her get a visa for Benedetti. Nichols replied, “I don’t have the authority to issue visas.” Salazar immediately shot back “Sure you do.” Nichols was protecting Petro, consistent with his and the Biden regime’s attacks on US allies and protection of US adversaries throughout the hemisphere.

In the hearing, Representative Keith Self (R-TX) asked Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Todd Robinson if Mexico was a failed state. The counternarcotics chief answered no and said the United States was countering the cartels. This covering for narco and human traffickers is troubling and consistent with Robinson’s past.

When Robinson was ambassador to Guatemala (2014–2017), he and Iván Velásquez illegally jailed more than a dozen people so that Biden could recover a lucrative contract his client had lost. Velásquez was then commissioner of a UN-created anti-impunity commission and is now Petro’s defense minister. Biden, Robinson, and Velásquez are linked by this criminal history, and Robinson recently posted a photo of himself and Velásquez outside the White House. Biden appointed Robinson as head of INL and might have helped Velásquez become defense minister.

Cabal says Velásquez has been favoring narcotraffickers such as the FARC. That includes opening Colombia as a land route for illegal drugs and migrants, a boon to the Hezbollah-Venezuela operation.

For electoral reasons, Biden cannot say, as Petro did, that Israel committed genocide against the Gazans. Biden’s actions—especially not enforcing sanctions on Iran—belie his various sops to Israel. Biden feigns concern for Gazan civilians to protect Hamas from Israeli destruction.

Biden is withholding from Israel a delivery of precision arms authorized by Congress, even though such arms help Israel minimize noncombatant casualties. Biden announced on May 8 that he would not provide aid if Israel were to attack Rafah.

Speaker Mike Johnson announced a House-wide effort to crack down on antisemitism on college campuses. The House must reveal not only the protest motives but also the joining of two totalitarian ideologies with the Biden regime at its center at home and abroad.
