‘The Biggest Loser’ trainer to run in GOP NY primary for US Senate after meeting ‘practically impossible’ requirement

A boxing star and celebrity fitness trainer is joining the political race in New York, hoping to ultimately nab Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s Senate seat.

Pro-Trump Republican Cara Castronuova has filed a petition to run in the Republican primary for the US Senate and believes it will “take a female candidate” to beat Gillibrand.

“I just feel like it’s wide open for somebody, the right candidate, to win in New York, and I just feel like I’m that right candidate,” the 44-year-old  two-times Golden Gloves champion told DailyMail.com.

“If there was somebody in it that was better than me, I would gladly not run for it,” she added.

Castronuova, who was a trainer on the reality television show, “The Biggest Loser” and a reporter for Newsmax, is running against retired NYPD detective Mike Sapraicone and businessman Josh Eisen in the GOP primary. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani and longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone have backed her run though former President Trump has not weighed in on her race.

Trump endorsed and praised Sapraiconeon Truth Social last month, stating. “he has my complete and total endorsement!”

With her Chinese, Filipino and Italian heritage, Castronuova is focusing her campaign on the migrant issue, especially in New York as well as medical freedom. She is also advocating for those facing persecution over the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“I was fighting for January 6 political prisoners three years ago when nobody else could even talk about this – it was taboo,” she told Daily Mail. “I was fighting at the beginning against the lockdowns, for medical freedom. And that’s the same way I want to fight for the Senate seat and for people in New York.”

Castronuova filed a federal lawsuit against the New York State Republican Party and the state Board of Elections over rules to qualify for the ballot.

“It is practically impossible for an average citizen to meet the 15,000 signature requirement,” the lawsuit states, according to the New York Post.

“It is unlikely that even the Party could gather the 15,000 signatures in time given the onerousness of the rules and the expense. They have exempted themselves and their favored candidates from the very rules they set for anyone besides their favored candidate,” it adds.

She said she’s “not afraid to say how I feel and who I am – being unapologetically, you know, America first candidate here in New York, which I think kind of separates me from the other candidates at the present time.”

Castronuova contends New York state is “not as blue as everyone thinks” and now is the time to flip the seat Gillibrand has held since 2008.

“I think it’s an opportunity that the Republican Party, you know, should take very seriously but with the right candidate, and I feel it’s me,” she said. “I fight whole-heartedly hard for things I believe in and I double down even when it’s unpopular.”
