Homeless man gives impassioned plea to Chicago city council: ‘What’s going on? … We will be displaced’

As Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson continues to anger residents by rolling out the red carpet to migrants in the country illegally, one homeless man delivered a “reality” check at a city council meeting.

A video posted on social media shows the unnamed man giving an impassioned plea to Chicago City Council members to address the escalating migrant crisis.

“In the past nearly year-and-a-half, Chicago has spent nearly $300 million responding to the ongoing migrant crisis, according to the city’s latest numbers,” CBS News reported last month, noting that, at the time, there were more than 11,000 migrants in 23 shelters in the Windy City.

Angry residents and many of the homeless community have lashed out at leaders in the past months, railing against the outpouring of funds and resources to migrants while Chicagoans foot the bill and lose promised projects and aid.

“They feel like you’re anti-American and maybe it’s time to really look at this,” the self-described homeless man in the video told the councilmembers.

“Accountability is what I stand on,” he added, pointing out, “the last 120 days that I have suffered, still homeless, countless SR numbers, but I watch individuals who came, who have come from thousands of miles away get preferential treatment.”

“This is my home. Chicago, this is my home… 43 years, this is my home. This is our home. However, we’ve been pushed to the wayside, it seems,” he continued, acknowledging that it must be difficult for the elected leaders to listen to so many frustrated people share about their hardships.

“You want to say something about the people who’ve chosen to just disregard the American citizens of Chicago, the residents who pay taxes to stand,” he continued.

“This man said the illegals got cars and they do. I watched them ride through 100 in the far South Side without license, without insurance, however. I have a license and insurance. No, no, I don’t have a license because it’s been taken from me,” he said as other residents could be heard agreeing with him.

“My insurance, I can’t cover because I don’t have a job. And if you don’t have a base to basically set yourself up like a home or housing, then you’re set to the wayside,” the mean contended.

“These are our realities, that citizens here in this Chicago are suffering. Well, basically the country. So I wanna say the country. That’s what we suffer right now. This is the reality of us. I’m the reality,” he added, mentioning the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms.

“You know what, I’m gonna have to go through so much paperwork, and y’all gonna be like, no, we can’t give a black man no gun. However, y’all done said we gonna give these people guns, but we stand to protect ourselves even. Y’all, what is this?” he demanded as others grew louder with their agreement.

“What is going on? Honestly, what is going on? The reality of us is, if we continue to allow this to go on, then we will be displaced. Not only displaced, raped, murdered, pillaged. This is the reality,” he said, turning to the other residents seated around him.

“A city without walls has no defense. And we got no walls,” he concluded as applause rang out. “So understand it, the city without walls has no defense.”

Though there were no details on the clip, the message resonated on social media where many hailed the man for his stand.
