A billionaire balk reportedly left a Robert F. Kennedy Jr. super PAC stiffed on $5 million in support.

Throughout the 2024 presidential campaign cycle, much attention had been paid to where high-dollar donors were positioning their considerable capital. While cash flowed to candidates including former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, a seven-figure promise from billionaire Jack Dorsey to their independent rival never manifested.

According to a report by Mediaite, the Twitter co-founder, who had supported Kennedy’s White House bid early on, had promised the candidate’s Common Sense PAC a donation of $5 million in August 2023, a source had detailed.

Additionally, the tech mogul was expected to appear beside the then-Democratic Party hopeful in a Spaces appearance on X.

“It got to the point where his lawyer was requesting wire instructions,” the source had told Mediaite about how far along the funding promise had progressed. An abrupt end to those communications was said to have left the PAC “puzzled and stunned.”

In June, Dorsey had initiated his support for the Kennedy campaign by captioning a video of the candidate saying he’d defeat Trump in the general election, “He can and will.”

When asked if it was an endorsement or a prediction, the billionaire had asserted, “Both.”

Days later, Dorsey appeared on the “Breaking Points” podcast where he furthered his support for Kennedy touting the candidate as “focused on peace” with “a grasp of all of the issues he speaks to…there’s no fear in exploring topics that are a little bit controversial.”

“I feel like our country needs his leadership,” he added.

While neither Kennedy’s campaign nor Dorsey responded to requests for comment from Mediaite, they wrote, “It remains unclear why Dorsey ultimately declined to send the cash, but rumors are swirling in the Kennedy camp that the board of Block, the financial tech company co-founded by Dorsey that owns the platform Square, expressed concerns about his support for the divisive candidate.”

Worth noting, the support for Kennedy’s campaign and the promise of cash had come while the candidate remained in the running for the Democratic Party nomination. In October Kennedy announced that he’d be stepping away from the donkeys to relaunch his campaign as an independent.

Mediaite had scooped that story and quoted an unnamed “campaign insider” as having told them, “Bobby feels that the DNC is changing the rules to exclude his candidacy so an independent run is the only way to go.”

According to the RealClear Politics average looking at polling conducted between Feb. 5 and March 1, in a five-way race that included independent candidate Cornel West and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Kennedy came in third place with just below 13% of the vote behind Biden just under 38% and a victorious Trump with nearly 41% support.
