North Face offers customers 20% discount for taking ‘racial inclusion’ DEI course

“Racial inclusion” hit the outdoors as one retailer offered up a discount for completing a course on “privilege” with ironic undertones about their own customer base.

Affirming that the main export of San Francisco, California remained woke ideology, outdoor apparel and equipment retailer The North Face launched a new exclusive promotion for their European consumers nearly 60 years after it was founded there.

Dubbed, “Allyship in the Outdoors,” the store’s website enticed customers across the Atlantic to take “A digital course about racial inclusion and allyship created by The North Face” in exchange for a one-time 20% discount on their wares.

“At The North Face, we believe in the power of exploration. As individuals, professionals and companies who share a love for the outdoors and exploration, we also have a responsibility to support spaces where everyone feels like they belong,” read the course description. “This 1-hour digital course is designed to foster a deeper understanding of the unique challenges that people of color face when accessing the outdoors.”

Included in the lessons that required answering multiple choice questions to advance to the coupon was an attribution to Black Lives Matter for sparking “a new awakening in the outdoors that racial inclusion and representation matters in sports” after “George Floyd was murdered by the police.”

Elsewhere, in a portion shared online that prompted author and cartoonist Scott Adams to react by simply stating “Disgusting,” the course spoke of privilege and wrote, “In particular this context, we refer to ‘white privilege’ meaning that your race and skin colour can give you access to the outdoors when others can be excluded because of historic, enduring racism and biases.”

Additionally, the course instructed customers to report instances where peers referred to them as “woke” to management, presumably for disciplinary purposes.

Reacting to the premise of the discount program, Free Speech Union founder Toby Young told The Sun, “The irony is that The North Face is implicitly acknowledging here that all its customers are white.”

“After all, why would black customers need to take a course about ‘white privilege’ to get a 20 per cent discount? But if all customers are white,” he continued, “shouldn’t it be examining the beam in its own eye?”

For the time being, it appeared that reaping the benefits of embracing Marxist ideology was beyond the privilege of those this side of the pond as successful completion of the course detailed, “To thank you for being an ally and completing the full course, The North Face is pleased to offer you a one-off 20% discount, to be used on The North Face website,” through a unique code “not applicable to those accessing the course from North America.”

The record showed that California shoppers were not deterred, and took advantage of a five-finger discount instead.
