Dr. Phil’s message on whether Biden should take cognitive exam: ‘People that have nothing to hide, hide nothing’

Confronted over the president’s cognitive abilities, Dr. Phil McGraw offered a strong statement on those who “have nothing to hide.”

Not long after the results of President Joe Biden’s annual physical came back, the gaffetastic commander-in-chief flubbed yet again on the world stage, confusing Gaza with Ukraine. Friday, with less than a week remaining before Biden gives his final State of the Union address, comedian Bill Maher probed his psychologist guest for his thoughts on the president’s mental state.

During the overtime segment of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the host asked the television personality matter-of-factly, “All right, here are the questions Dr. Phil, do you think President Biden should take a cognitive exam?”

“If you got noth-” the famed TV shrink began before reframing, “People that have nothing to hide, hide nothing. So, why not?”

As McGraw earned applause for cutting straight to the point, Maher, who had encouraged Biden to lean into his geriatric state during his re-election campaign, moved on to an unrelated question on polyamory and “throuples.”

However, the guest’s brief answer wasn’t all he had to say on the matter.

Earlier in the week, McGraw had participated in an interview with OK! where he touched on the same point more broadly.

“One of my specialties, back when I was in practice, was the brain and central service system,” the outlet quoted him as saying. “Cognitive ability [and] cognitive ability can be defined objectively — such as memory and working memory, [which is] the ability to comprehend, put sentences together, express yourself. All of these things are very measurable and if you really had nothing to hide, I think you would hide nothing.”

“If you had no problem with neurological deficits, wouldn’t you want to crow about that?” the doctor posited. “Wouldn’t you want to have a transparent neurocognitive examination and show the world that was the case?”

As had been reported, White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor had detailed that while experiencing obstructive sleep apnea, seasonal allergies, gastroesophageal reflux, a-fib with normal ventricular response, hyperlipidemia, spinal arthritis and sensory peripheral neuropathy of the feet, “The President feels well and this year’s physical identified no new concerns.”

“He continues to be fit for duty and fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations,” added the physician. “President Biden is a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief.”

Response to the report was hardly positive as many had contended that stated issues like sleep apnea were noted risk factors for dementia and have been associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Biden’s mixup of Gaza and Ukraine followed another recent flub where he’d confused the presidents of Egypt and Mexico shortly after special counsel Robert Hur had released his report on the mishandling of classified documents that asserted, in part, that the president should not be charged because of his “poor memory.”
