Rashida Tlaib tells Democrats not to vote for Biden in Michigan primary over support for Israel

A planned attempt to leverage terrorist support against the president saw unofficial Hamas caucus leader Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) coaching constituents on who to support in the primary.

Since the Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel, terrorist sympathizers have demonstrated against the Middle Eastern nation with calls for genocide of the Jewish people. Seemingly encouraging the rise in antisemitism that has seen violent protests across the country, including the suspected motivation behind the Lakewood Church incident, Michigan’s homegrown congresswoman released a video promoting an “uncommitted” protest vote against President Joe Biden to try to force his hand.

“It is important, as you all know, to not only march against the genocide, not only make sure that we’re calling our members of Congress…it is also important to create a voting bloc, something that is a bullhorn to say enough is enough,” said a keffiyeh-wearing Tlaib in a video posted by the group Listen To Michigan.

“We don’t want a country that supports wars and bombs and destruction. We want to support life. We want to stand up for every single life killed in Gaza,” she continued. “This is the way you can raise our voices. Don’t make us even more invisible. Right now, we feel completely neglected — neglected and just unseen by our government. If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted.”

Pushing the position of the activist campaign run by her own sister, Layla Elabed, the congresswoman supported the effort that aimed to send the message that Michigan was “uncommitted for Biden’s funding war and genocide in Gaza.”

According to their website, “The Michigan Democratic presidential primary is an important venue to demonstrate a large rejection of President Biden’s backing and financing of the Israeli government’s war in Gaza. In 2008, Obama did not make the ballot in Michigan primaries but his campaign mobilized young and Black voters to vote ‘uncommitted’ as a symbolic (and real) rejection of Hillary Clinton. It embarrassed Clinton.”

Elabed had recently told the New York Times, “If we can demonstrate our political power and discontent through as many uncommitted votes as possible in the Michigan Democratic primaries, then the hope is that Biden would feel more at risk of losing Michigan in the general election.”

Now, with the backing of public officials from the city of Dearborn, the city of Hamtramck, various Boards of Education, county officials, state House representatives and others, the federal lawmaker eyed yet another American allegiance-eschewing move.

Previously, Tlaib and fellow “Squad” member Missouri Rep. Cori Bush (D), were the only House lawmakers who voted against barring Hamas terrorists from being allowed entry into the United States.

“Our immediate demand is crystal clear,” said Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud (D), “the Biden Administration must call for a permanent ceasefire to a genocide it is defending and funding with our tax dollars. Dearborn residents have tirelessly protested and organized in demand of a ceasefire. As their mayor, I follow their lead.”

The Michigan primary is set for Tuesday Feb. 27.
