The use of a rare Sunday session to advance a funding bill left one senator raising the alarm over “an impeachment time bomb” preemptively hamstringing a future Trump presidency.
After the so-called “bipartisan border deal” was deemed dead on arrival for legitimizing the crisis instead of addressing it while the majority of $118 billion went abroad, the Senate returned its focus to funding Ukraine by attaching a nearly $96 billion amendment to a veteran’s affairs bill.
While Utah Sen. Mike Lee (R) had emphasized only 41 Republicans needed to hold their ground against cloture to keep it from passing, 18 helped the Democrats advance what Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance (R) warned would “make it ILLEGAL for Trump to do what he is promising on the campaign trail.”
Monday morning, the best-selling author turned lawmaker shared his analysis that he deemed “a plot against the President Trump, plain and simple,” highlighting a segment of a piece he composed for the American Conservative. “The legislation explicitly requires funding for Ukraine well into the next presidential term. The Washington Post has already reported this provision was added to control Donald Trump.”
“It gets worse,” stated Vance.
“Back in 2019, Democrats articulated a novel theory of impeachment, based on Trump’s refusal to spend money from the USAI–Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. Five years after impeaching Trump for refusing to spend money on Ukraine,” he continued, “they have drafted a new law that again requires Trump to spend money on Ukraine.”
“If he negotiates an end to the war, as he has promised to do, they will undoubtedly argue that he has broken the law. We are nearly a year away from an election that could give Trump the presidency, and Ukraine-obsessive Republicans have already given the Democrats a predicate to impeach him,” asserted the senator before adding, “Slava Ukraini, America be damned.”

The congressman also shared a memo he said he had passed around to all congressional Republicans that led commentator Monica Crowley to contend, “This Ukraine bill is straight-up treason. Every Republican who supports this is a DISGRACE and MUST GO. Starting with Mitch McConnell.”
As Vance put it, “Buried in the bill’s text is an impeachment time bomb for the next Trump presidency if he tries to stop funding the war in Ukraine. We must vote against this disastrous bill.”

Referencing the 2019 impeachment against Trump and the GOP leader’s promise to “resolve the war in 24 hours” if returned to the White House, the senator laid out, “The bill includes $1.6 billion for foreign military financing in Ukraine, and $13.7 billion for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. These funds expire on September 30, 2025–nearly a year in to the possible second term of President Trump.”
“These are the exact same accounts President Trump was impeached for pausing in December 2019. Every single House Republican voted against this impeachment resolution,” he reminded as others sounded off on the tactics.
Guaranteed impeachment for striving for world peace in lieu of a never-ending war. What a sad time in American history.

If Republicans vote for this, it will be a total betrayal of the voters.

Vance concluded, “The supplemental represents an attempt by the foreign policy blob/deep state to stop President Trump from pursuing his desired policy, and if he does so anyways, to provide grounds to impeach him and undermine his administration. All Republicans should oppose its passage.”
