Omar demands GOP lawmaker apologize for calling Cori Bush ‘loud’ – because it’s racist

U.S. Rep Ilhan Omar came to the defense of one of her fellow ‘Squad’ members in demanding an apology from a Republican colleague.

The Minnesota Democrat insisted GOP Rep. Troy Nehls apologize after he referred to Rep. Cori Bush as “loud” in comments reported by CNN. The Republican from Texas was responding to news that Bush was being investigated by the Department of Justice over alleged misuse of campaign funds.

“She doesn’t even support the police. But the idea to pay her thug money to try to help protect her this and that, for what?” Nehls said. “Maybe if she wouldn’t be so loud all the time, maybe she wouldn’t be getting threats.”

Asked by the CNN reporter if he felt Bush “deserves” to be threatened, Nehls said, “No, what I’m saying is, is that when you’re out there talking the way she does … She’s pretty radical. And maybe she should tone it down a little bit.”

Omar ripped the congressman in a post on X.

“The loud black woman trope is racist and tired. The Congressman should apologize and all members of Congress should condemn him,” she wrote.

“No one in our government deserves to be threatened regardless how loud they advocate for their positions and blaming the victim of harassment and threats can’t be condoned,” the Democrat, who is currently facing her own controversy, added.

As for Bush, on Monday she responded to the reports that earlier in the day, the Justice Department subpoenaed the House Sergeant at Arms for documents related to the alleged misuse of campaign funds for her private security.

“I can confirm that the Department of Justice is reviewing my campaign’s spending on security services. We are fully cooperating in this investigation,” she said Tuesday in a statement.

“I have not used any federal tax dollars for personal security services. Any reporting that I have used federal funds for personal security is simply false,” the Missouri Democrat insisted.

Meanwhile, Omar’s criticism of Nehls and call for an apology were met with social media scorn.
