Senator Tim Scott pops the question in the thick of VP rumors

Former Republican presidential candidate Tim Scott is leaving bachelorhood behind.

The South Carolina senator, whose name is being rumored as a potential vice-presidential pick for former President Donald Trump, just got engaged.

The 58-year-old bachelor proposed to his girlfriend and “soul mate” Mindy Noce on the beach in Kiawah Island in South Carolina on Saturday. He reportedly asked her parents for their blessing before popping the question to the 47-year-old mother of three.

“She said YES,” he wrote in a post on social media along with pictures of the couple, with the interior designer bride-to-be showing off her new engagement ring.

“As a guy who is mostly an introvert and on the quiet side, having to have a conversation about the engagement is a little, you know, uncomfortable in a way, but it’s the most exciting thing I’ll do with my life besides making Jesus my Lord,” Scott told The Washington Post in an interview a day later.

“I’ve been very patient and prayerful, and I’m really excited and somewhat nervous, and I couldn’t be more thankful for having found a soul mate and someone who shares a lot of the same interests, passions and goals that I do,” he added.

The senator faced a barrage of questions about his love life as he campaigned for president and raised more curiosity when he introduced Noce after a primary debate in Miami, Florida. Scott ended his White House bid in November and just endorsed former President Donald Trump.

“My joke is as soon as I saw her picture, I figured it out. But the truth is about two weeks into it, I knew there was something very different about her and her faith,” Scott told the Washington Post. “In our first conversation that went about an hour and a half or two, we ended up deciding to do a Bible study together.”

He strategically planned the proposal and even encountered a small hiccup along the way.

One of his friends rejected an early idea of proposing after a pickleball game, a hobby that both of them enjoy, he said.

“He settled on a sunset proposal on Kiawah Island, prompting a long drive Saturday to the frigid beach. He described awkwardly trying to dissuade her from wearing gloves when they walked out on the sand, and positioned someone to take a photograph of the event,” WaPo reported.

Speaking with Fox News host Trey Gowdy, Scott described how the day he proposed was “sacred.”

“Going to the beach and getting on one knee, and asking Mindy to marry me was so much more important than anything else, and I wanted to make sure that that sacred day would not be disturbed by anything political,” he said.

Scott was congratulated by many including some GOP colleagues.
