Texas Dem candidate runs with ‘blatant lie’ about recent deaths at ‘Biden’s open border’

Democrats are being accused of running with a “blatant lie” regarding the immigration crisis at the southern U.S. border.

Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez claimed the recent death of migrants crossing the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass constituted a “murder,” claiming that deaths occurring as migrants attempt illegal entry into the U.S. are “because of obstacles” put in the river by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

The Democrat who is running against U.S. Rep. Colin Allred in a bid to ultimately unseat Republican Sen. Ted Cruz this year floated charges of, “at a minimum,” failure to stop and render aid and “possibly negligent homicide at a maximum.”

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin called Gutierrez out on social media, accusing him of “Doubling down on a blatant lie.”

“These migrants were deceased for over an hour before Mexico even notified Border Patrol, who then notified TX,” Melugin wrote. “That is confirmed by the Biden admin’s own Department of Justice.”

The Houston Chronicle reported:

A top Border Patrol official said three migrants who died crossing the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass on Friday had already drowned when agents received a distress call from Mexico, countering initial claims that the woman and two children had drowned after state soldiers blocked federal agents from reaching them.

Still, Robert Danley, the chief patrol agent in the Del Rio sector, said in a sworn statement that Texas soldiers blocked Border Patrol officers from getting to two other migrants who were struggling in the river Friday night. Those migrants were rescued by a Mexican airboat and were suffering from hypothermia.

The Biden administration blasted Texas over the incident before it was reported that the migrants had already died before agents arrived.

Earlier this week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the Biden administration needed to set the record straight on what really happened with the deaths.

“When you accuse somebody of being a part, causing the deaths of migrants, you oughta have your facts straight and if you don’t then you need to correct those facts so that the American people know that you got it wrong,” Paxton said.
