The NBC News reporter who was abruptly suspended after his coverage of Nancy Pelosi’s husband has just announced his departure from the network

Miguel Almaguer sparked questions and a fair share of conspiracy theories after he seemed to disappear from NBC News following his report on the November 2022 attack on then-82-year-old Paul Pelosi in his home.

“Seen a lot. Done a lot. Learned a lot,” Almaguer wrote in a post on Instagram where he announced his exit from NBC News.

“Thankful for my nearly 2 decade long run at NBC News,” he added in the post that featured a picture of him walking with “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt.

“But more than anything grateful for those in the trenches with me. With them it was more an adventure than work. Change is hard and goodbyes aren’t easy. But turning the page is exciting,” Almaguer concluded. “In news … I love a great last line. This one is still being written.”

An internal memo circulated to NBC employees appeared to confirm the news.

“Miguel has been a valued member of our newsgathering team, traveling around the country and the globe to cover many of the biggest stories. He’s earned honors and recognition for his intrepid reporting, including an Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy. He has been a mainstay across NBC Nightly News, TODAY, MSNBC and NBC News NOW,” the memo obtained by Mediaite read.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have worked at NBC News for the last 18 years. It’s been a privilege to tell some of the world’s most important stories. I am especially thankful and indebted to each one of you — my colleagues, true professionals who worked so tirelessly by my side in the trenches. NBC News is home to some of the very best in the business who I will deeply miss. Being at NBC News has granted me a front-row seat to history, and it has been a profound honor.

The Emmy Award-winning journalist evidently went against the narrative when he seemed to raise questions about whether Pelosi was in any danger in the incident.

“When officers arrived here at the Pelosi home exactly a week ago today, they initially didn’t have any idea exactly what was going on. They knew they had a high priority call on their hand. What was unclear what was happening inside the property just behind me,” Almaguer reported in the story which was soon removed.

“Why Pelosi didn’t try to flee or tell responding officers he was in distress is unclear,” the journalist added. “We still don’t know exactly what unfolded between Mr. Pelosi and the suspect for the 30 minutes they were alone inside that house before police arrived.”

“The piece should not have aired because it did not meet NBC News reporting standards,” the network said at the time, yanking the report and claiming Almaguer had relied on “unreliable” sourcing.
