MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough blasted the Fox News town hall with Donald Trump as a “paid advertisement” for the former president’s election campaign.
The “Morning Joe” host has made no secret of his disdain for the Republican frontrunner but seemed to focus more on the town hall moderators during a segment of his show Thursday.
“I would call it softball — a softball event,” Scarborough began as the panel discussed Trump’s response to the issue of abortion.
“I’ve never seen one as fawning. I’m not even sure why they had two hosts there. You know, they could have just had one and just sit there and say, ‘Smile and say, you’re great,’” he complained, referring to Fox News hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum who moderated Wednesday’s town hall with the former president in Des Moines, Iowa.
“It’s not like he was backed into the corner —he admitted that he was the one who terminated Roe v Wade,” he added.
Trump’s remarks came in response to an audience member who wanted reassurance that, if elected, he would “protect all life without compromise.”
“Nobody has done more in that regard. (But) I happen to be for the exceptions like Ronald Reagan, with the life of the mother, rape, incest. I just have to be there, I feel,” Trump said.
“For 54 years, they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it. And I’m proud to have done it,” the former president had also said, prompting the reaction from Scarborough.
“And what did the Biden people do last night?” the MSNBC host asked.
“They’re just hanging out. They’re probably laughing at all the Republican chaos and the debate and then laughing at the Fox News hosts, who were just absolute jokes,” he went on.
“It was just an embarrassment. Like, Fox News ‘Ooh, we’re going to be for DeSantis’…Even DesSantis’s people were like, ‘Seriously, this is a paid advertisement for Donald Trump,’ which it was,” Scarborough blustered.
“I’ve never seen a paid advertisement on Fox News like, or anywhere else.,” he concluded. “This was like a Glenn Beck survival scene, back when he had a show there. It was like an advertisement for Donald Trump. And even in that setting, he did this.”
