South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem hopes the U.S. Supreme Court will take “strong action” in the ruling barring former President Donald Trump from the Colorado primary ballot.

The Republican governor also noted the double standard when she was asked if her state could similarly bar President Joe Biden’s name from the ballot in her own state.

Noem was speaking with former Trump White House senior counselor Kellyanne Conway who posed the question to her during an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday. The discussion landed on the development as the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump is not eligible to be on the state’s primary ballot due to his alleged activities related to the protest at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The state’s high court cited the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution in its decision.

“Governor Noem, would you be able to bar Biden from the ballot in your state of South Dakota if, say, he violated that part of the 14th Amendment by unfreezing assets for Iran or allowed terrorists to just openly walk over the southern border?” Conway, who was sitting in for host Sean Hannity, asked on “Hannity” Wednesday.

“I mean, do you think that you would have that power, your highest court would have that power?” she questioned.

“You know, I don’t believe so. That’s what is so interesting,” Noem replied.

“The process that the court has is a balance to our federal government. It is a balance to our executive branch, a balance to our legislative branch, you know? So us exerting the kind of influence on the court and their decisions to take that kind of action is really unprecedented,” the GOP governor continued.

“So I trust our South Dakota state laws, our Constitution, it gives great guidance to us, and our court system understands that their job is to follow statute and give decisions based on the scales of justice. I am very proud of what we do here in South Dakota,” she told Conway.

Noem added her hopes that the decision would be reversed by the nation’s highest court.

“I would be hopeful that other states would do that and not let liberal judges rewrite the rules of the game to work for their political interests. This is where the Supreme Court should, and I hope will, take quick action, strong action to reverse this decision at the lower court and make sure that they do the right thing by the American people and make sure their voices are heard,” she concluded.

The Colorado ruling sparked a furious backlash, not surprisingly, and even Trump’s 2024 rivals blasted the decision.
