A medical emergency during a tennis star’s press conference was caught on video as a young player collapsed on the court.
A teenager identified as Jasmine has Australian tennis great Alicia Molik to thank for quickly coming to her aid after she collapsed and appeared unresponsive at Memorial Drive Tennis Club in Adelaide.
“The former world No.8 and two-time grand slam doubles champion was being unveiled as the Adelaide International’s new tournament director when the incident unfolded on centre court,” 7NEWS Adelaide reported.
“Molik had been listening to a journalist’s question when a loud noise prompted her and others to turn around,” the outlet recounted. “The 42-year-old sprung into action upon realising one of the young players on hand for the announcement was now lying unresponsive on the ground.”
As the terrifying scene unfolded, Molik was seen rendering first aid, rolling the young girl to her side and helping her to breathe. She then stuck beside her until paramedics arrived on the scene.
The Adelaide Advertiser reported that the teen had been playing on the court for two hours before she collapsed.
She was reportedly recovering in the hospital.
Molik, meanwhile, had been speaking about giving back to the South Australian tennis community.
“Tennis is part of my everyday DNA and to have the opportunity to be a part of a world-class tennis event in the city where I grew up is really something special,” she said in a statement.“This is a chance for me to give back to the community that supported me throughout my on-court career and still to this day.”
