An Atlanta Fox News affiliate is declaring an “end of an era” as one of its own is exiting after a four-decade career.
Fox 5 Atlanta and WAGA TV reporter Morse Diggs will be going off into retirement next week after a staggering 41 years on the job. His departure represents a wave of changes in network television as the old guard slowly gets replaced with new blood.
“In a bittersweet moment on Oct. 31, 2023, reporter Morse Diggs signed off for his last time after more than 40 years in television,” Fox 5 reported Tuesday.
“Diggs, who has developed a reputation as Atlanta’s hardest hitting journalist with the most impeccable sense of style, has announced his retirement. He says he’ll be trading in his sharp suits and fedoras for comfortable clothes he can wear to keep up with his granddaughter,” the outlet added.
His colleagues noted that he has likely covered over 10,000 stories and has had a “front seat to history” throughout his reporting career. Diggs reflected on those stories and the ones that never made it to the air as the station honored him.
“People trust me. I’ll get emails, even today, from folks I don’t know,” Diggs told Good Day Atlanta’s Alyse Eady when asked about his legacy. “They’ll say ‘You’re believable. We trust you. It’s balanced, it’s fair.’ I’d like that to be number one.”
Diggs was the City Hall correspondent for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution before he joined Fox 5 Atlanta in 1982.
