Conservative party leader in Canada casually SHREDS reporter comparing him to Trump while munching on an apple in FIRE clip

A conservative party leader in Canada has gone viral for a video clip in which he calmly munched on an apple while shredding a reporter for comparing him to former President Donald Trump.

When Vancouver-based reporter Don Urquhart posed his question, he was likely not expecting the biting response from Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. Standing outdoors in the interview caught on video, Poilievre was seen eating his snack before coolly dismantling the reporter’s narrative as he tried to make the comparison to Trump’s politics.

“In terms of your sort of strategy currently, you’re obviously taking the populist pathway -” Urquhart began before being interrupted.

“What does that mean?” asked Poilievre, who is reportedly favored to be the next Canadian prime minister, according to polls.

“Well, appealing to people’s more emotional levels I would guess, I mean certainly you -” the reporter attempted to continue, before the politician asked him, “What do you mean by that, give me an example?”

“Certainly you tap very strong ideological language quite frequently,” Urquhart tried to clarify, with Poilievre pushing back, “Like what?”

“Left-wing this and that right-wing, I mean that type of ideological —” he attempted again before being cut off by the 44-year-old conservative leader.

“I almost never talk about, I never really talk about left or right. I don’t really believe in that,” Poilievre rebutted, causing the reporter to take the leap.

“Okay, a lot of people would say you’re simply taking a page out of the Donald Trump book,” he said.

“A lot of people? Like which people would say that?” Poilievre pressed, still casually eating his apple.

“Well, I’m sure a great many Canadians, but —” the reporter attempted before the leader pressed him again to give examples. “Well, you’re the one who asked the question, so you must know somebody.”

The journalist then scrambled to find his line of questioning again, saying, “Okay, I’m sure there are some out there but anyways, the point of this question is: Why should Canadians trust you with their vote given, you know, not just the sort of ideological inclination in terms of taking the page out of Donald Trump’s book, but also-”

Poilievre quickly fired back, not letting the reporter finish.

“What are you talking about? What page? What page? Can you give me a page? Give me the page. You keep saying that,” he demanded.

“In terms of turning things quite dramatically in terms of Trudeau and the left-wing and all of this. You make — it’s quite a play that you make on it. So I’m just wondering,” Urquhart offered in another lame attempt to corner the apple-munching politician.

“I don’t know what your question is,” Poilievre declared, causing the reporter to finally abandon ship as he said, “So forget that, why should Canadians trust you with their vote?”

Poilievre did not hesitate to deliver a thorough response.

“Common sense. Common sense for a change. We’re gonna make common sense common in this country. We don’t have any common sense in the current government,” he said, in words that likely would resonate with Trump and many conservatives.

“You know, the guy prints 600 billion dollars, grows our money supply by 32% in three years — that’s growing the money eight times faster than the economy — no wonder we have the worst inflation in four decades. I’m gonna cap spending, cut waste so that we can balance the budget, bring down inflation and interest rates,” he continued. “You wanna be able to pay your mortgage again? You wanna be able to afford rent? Then you have to vote for Pierre Poilievre because I am the only one with a common sense plan that will bring back the buying power of your paycheck.”

Urquhart reported on his interview on Castanet, not mentioning his own bias and failed attempts to spin a narrative while claiming that “Poilievre became acerbic” after questions about his Trump-like “populist playbook.”

The exchange went viral on X where some did wonder if the whole clip was staged.

But many were completely impressed with the “master class” delivered by Poilievre, including Elon Musk.

“Pierre Poilievre gives a masterclass on how to handle a left-wing journalist. And he eats an apple while he’s doing it,” tweeted commentator
Ian Miles Cheong, prompting a response from Musk.
